Description
The entity known as Avenger or True Archer in Fate/strange Fake is a Servant whose original identity is the legendary Greek hero Heracles, the son of Zeus. He is initially summoned by his master, Bazdilot Cordelion, into the Archer class under the name True Archer. However, the circumstances of his summoning are anything but standard. Bazdilot, a ruthless member of a criminal family, has no interest in a noble and righteous hero. Upon witnessing True Archer's refusal to commit inhumane acts such as killing a child, Bazdilot uses all three of his Command Spells to force the hero to accept a distorted view of human nature. Simultaneously, he exposes the Servant to the corrupting mud of the Fuyuki Holy Grail. This process of corruption strips the hero of his divinity and his pride in his name, transforming him into a new, twisted existence. He renounces the name Heracles, which honors the goddess Hera, and instead adopts his birth name, Alcides, representing his purely human and mortal aspect. His class is effectively warped to include the attributes of an Avenger, making him a unique hybrid Servant.
Before his corruption, True Archer is described as an extremely heroic individual with strong morals and a faultless character, as befits a hero of the Three Knight classes. He is dignified and would refuse any order that violates his principles, even to the point of turning against his own Master. After being blackened, his personality is fundamentally altered. While he retains his memories and skills, his spirit is consumed by a profound hatred, particularly for the gods who tormented him throughout his life. This resentment is so deep that he refuses to look upon the works of man and becomes a remorseless killer driven by a singular will. His primary motivation is no longer heroism but a dark desire to use the Holy Grail to erase his own name and legacy, effectively seeking to unmake the legend of Heracles as an act of defiance against the divine. He holds a particularly deep-seated animosity toward heroic spirits with high divinity, seeing them as extensions of the gods he despises.
In the narrative of the False Holy Grail War in Snowfield, True Archer serves as one of the most formidable and antagonistic forces. He is a "True" Servant, summoned after the initial seven "False" Servants, making him part of a more legitimate but still irregular war. His role is defined by his immense power and his aggressive pursuit of his goals. He immediately establishes himself as a primary threat by engaging Gilgamesh, the King of Heroes, whom he identifies as his greatest enemy due to his high divinity. Their rivalry becomes a central pillar of the story, with True Archer demonstrating his terrifying capabilities by sniping Gilgamesh from over twenty kilometers away and withstanding a barrage from the Gate of Babylon. He is not a lone actor but a weapon for his master, Bazdilot, who sustains True Archer's immense magical energy consumption through horrific means, having sacrificed tens of thousands of people to create mana crystals.
His key relationships are defined by conflict and manipulation. His bond with his master, Bazdilot, is one of pure utility and coercion, forged through violation and control rather than mutual trust. His primary rivalry is with Gilgamesh, whom he seeks to provoke into unleashing his full power, specifically the sword Ea, to prove his own strength and to crush a symbol of divine authority. He also has a significant connection to True Rider, Hippolyta, the queen of the Amazons. In their legends, Heracles killed her to obtain a magical sash, and her appearance in the war brings a complex dynamic of past恩怨 and sorrow for what Alcides has become. In contrast, he maintains a memory of respect for his former comrade, Jason, the captain of the Argo, viewing him as a fundamentally human figure he cannot tolerate being insulted.
True Archer's development is one of tragic descent. He begins as a pinnacle of heroism but is forcibly unmade into a creature of spite and vengeance. His development is not one of growth but of a systematic stripping away of his nobler qualities—his divinity, his pride, and his mercy—leaving behind only a bitter, powerful shell driven by hatred. His power set reflects this transformation. His primary Noble Phantasm is King's Order: Twelve Glories, which he gained in exchange for the divinity and immortality he lost. It allows him to manifest the tools and treasures he obtained during his Twelve Labors, though at a high cost of magical energy. Key manifestations include the Pelt of the Divine Beast from the Nemean Lion, which renders him immune to all man-made weapons, and the Goddess of War, a sash of the war god Ares that enhances his power. He can also summon the guard dog of the underworld, Cerberus. Another technique is Nine Lives, a high-speed attack that can take the form of homing energy blasts or devastating strikes with his weapon. Most notably, his transformation granted him the Noble Phantasm Reincarnation Pandora: Usurper of the Celestial Wind, an EX-rank ability that allows him to steal the Noble Phantasms of other Servants, making him an even more unpredictable and dangerous enemy. Possessing high-ranking skills like Independent Action, Magic Resistance, and the Avenger skills that convert hatred into power, True Archer is a walking engine of combat, a fallen hero whose might is matched only by the tragedy of his corruption.
