Description
Elsia, known in the original Japanese version as Hikaru Makiba, is a guardian in Grendizer U who possesses mysterious powers. Her background is deeply rooted in mysticism; she is a high school student living on the island of Ogami-jima and is the keeper of the religion centered on the god Grendizer. Unlike previous incarnations of the character, she is not a simple country girl but rather the descendant of a family of mystical priests devoted to the deity Euphor, suggesting a possible extraterrestrial origin or ancestry. Her appearance is inspired by the original character Vénusia, though she has darker skin, a different hairstyle, and different clothing.

In terms of personality, Elsia is portrayed as serious, stoic, and strict, making her more impersonal and less empathetic than her counterparts in older versions of the story. She hides secrets out of loyalty to the prophecies of her island and can be a poor judge of character, as demonstrated by her vain hope for the redemption of Sargas. Her motivations are driven by her sacred duty; she views Daisuke, known as Actarus, as the Starker Knight and pilot of Grendizer, and considers him a possible candidate for marriage to fulfill her religion's prophecies.

Her role in the story is that of a gatekeeper to the past, as she seems to know many secrets about Grendizer and its history. She first encounters and appraises the character of Daisuke upon his arrival on the island. A key relationship in her arc is with the antagonist Sargas, whom she initially seeks to redeem. She entrusts him with piloting the Vénusiak but, upon realizing the failure of her endeavor, kills him without hesitation. She also aids Alcor in the final battle and pilots the Vénusiak herself after Sargas's death.

Elsia possesses notable abilities, including powerful psychic powers that are evidently linked to the anti-gravity storm, also known as the retro-laser. When she uses these powers, her eyes glow, marking her supernatural heritage and role as a guardian. Her development throughout the narrative sees her transition from a secretive and hopeful guardian to a decisive figure who does not shy away from lethal action when her trust is betrayed.
