Description
Leland is a sixteen-year-old Canadian teenager and one of the deuteragonists of the anime Lazarus. He comes from an extremely wealthy aristocratic family, the Astor family. His father was the head of the estate, but his mother was a mistress, making him an illegitimate heir. After the deaths of his father and older brother, and with his older sister refusing to marry, Leland became the heir to the family estate. However, he left the Astor household due to his complicated position, and his older sister harbors mixed feelings toward him. Leland has a short, skinny physique with short, slightly spiked blond hair. He is skilled at piloting drones and is considered one of the world's best thieves, a talent that led to his recruitment into the Lazarus task force.
Leland is highly intelligent and perceptive. He reads situations carefully and speaks accordingly, but he rarely reveals what he truly thinks. He is guarded about his family background and does not like discussing it. One of his hobbies is egosurfing, or searching for his own name and news about himself online, as he enjoys learning what others say about him. He is fascinated by conspiracies and abandoned his privileged life to find his own path. After Dr. Skinner's announcement that everyone who took the drug Hapna would die within thirty days, Leland decided not to return to school and instead joined the Lazarus team.
His motivations are partly personal: a scene shows him leaving flowers at a graveyard, hinting at a past loss that drives him. Within the Lazarus group, Leland serves as a support member, using his drone expertise for reconnaissance and his thieving skills for infiltration. He is the youngest member of the team, and fellow member Christine remarks that he gives off grandson vibes.
