Description
Operator 21O, pronounced two-one-oh, is a communications operator serving the YoRHa android forces, stationed permanently aboard the orbital base known as the Bunker. Her primary duties are relaying orders, directives, and tactical information from headquarters to YoRHa soldiers operating on the ground, as well as performing information analysis in support of field missions. She is specifically assigned to support the scanner unit YoRHa No. 9 Type S, known as 9S, acting as his dedicated rear-support operator during his missions.

In personality, 21O is calm, level-headed, and composed, with a stricter and more impersonal manner than many of the other operators. She is cool and professional in her transmissions, favoring discipline and efficiency, and she tends to keep an emotional distance when dealing with 9S. Beneath her reserved exterior, however, there is a quieter layer of concern for the androids she watches over; her professionalism conceals a subtle, unspoken care for those under her charge. She is analytical and capable, qualities that suit her well to the communications and intelligence work of the Bunker.

Her primary motivation is the fulfillment of her duties as an operator, serving the YoRHa mission and supporting the soldiers in the field as effectively as possible. When circumstances demand more than communication work, she is willing to step beyond her designated role, showing a sense of duty that overrides her ordinarily cautious and rule-bound nature.

Within the story, 21O appears as a supporting figure who checks in with 9S during scheduled contacts and mission transmissions, providing him with orders, alerts, and updates. Her relationship with 9S is the most significant in her story: she is the operator responsible for him, and their working relationship is marked by her formal and detached manner even as she remains dependable and attentive to his operations. In a critical turn of events, she volunteers to have her equipment converted to a B-model combat configuration for a drop operation, joining the battle as unit 21B before being recorded as missing in action. She is later encountered again at the resource recovery unit in the amusement park ruins, where she has been overtaken by the logic virus. In that corrupted state she is no longer herself, and A2 is ultimately forced to take her life.

Her development is therefore defined by a shift from a background figure of calm support to a casualty of the war against the machines. The same sense of duty that defined her as an operator leads her to volunteer for combat, and her fate illustrates the vulnerability of YoRHa's non-combat personnel when the logic virus spreads through their ranks.

In terms of ability, 21O is highly skilled at analysis and information handling, efficient in command transmission, and capable of remaining composed under pressure. As a standard operator she is not a front-line combatant, but after her conversion to a B-model she is able to fight. In her corrupted state she employs a defensive energy barrier, releases damaging energy orbs, sweeps lasers across the battlefield, and attacks with a YoRHa small sword, reflecting the combat equipment she requested for the descent.
