Description
Hybis is a demon and a secondary character from Dragon Ball Daima. He serves as a soldier for King Kadan, the ruler of the Third Demon World, and originates from that realm. Hybis has a distinctive appearance: he is a short, portly demon with pink skin, pointed ears, and dark blue fur that sticks up as a single strand on his head. His outfit consists of a mustard-colored military-style coat with a zigzag pattern, black inner shirt, amber pants, and light yellow boots. A notable part of his design is the large military belt he wears, which for a significant portion of the story holds an object of great importance. Like most inhabitants of the Third Demon World, he initially wears a red Magic Collar around his neck.
In terms of personality, Hybis is extremely peculiar and carefree, often displaying an emotionless or blank expression while acting in a mischievous or strangely direct manner. He operates entirely at his own pace and does not like having responsibilities, frequently coming up with outlandish or rambling excuses to avoid tasks he finds uninteresting or to get out of work. He is also remarkably insensitive and innocent in his bluntness, as he makes a habit of saying whatever comes to mind without any apparent social filter. For example, he casually asks Bulma to be his girlfriend despite her marriage to Vegeta and later accuses Vegeta of only wanting to return to adulthood because he prefers a more buxom figure, much to the Saiyan prince's irritation.
Hybis's role in the story begins when King Kadan orders him to go to Earth to retrieve Goku's friends, including Vegeta, Bulma, and Piccolo, and bring them to the Demon Realm. He reluctantly agrees after his excuses are shot down. Once he arrives, he effectively becomes part of the group's traveling party, though he rarely participates in combat, preferring to step aside to eat snacks, such as potato chips, while others handle any fighting. He serves as a minor but consistent source of comic relief throughout the journey and, most critically, acts as an unwitting carrier for the Evil Third Eye, a legendary artifact of absolute power that the main antagonist, Gomah, seeks. Having found the living eye while hunting in the mountains long ago and not realizing its significance, Hybis had kept it attached to his belt as a simple accessory. This object is eventually traded away by him for a strange, lime-green hat belonging to a female demon, a transaction that allows the artifact to fall into the hands of the enemy.
Key relationships for Hybis are primarily developed with the main cast. He is a subordinate to King Kadan, who seems accustomed to his lazy nature but can scold him into action. His dynamic with Vegeta is filled with comedic tension, as his oblivious comments about Bulma easily provoke the proud Saiyan. He interacts amiably with Bulma, who finds his strange demeanor noteworthy, and with the others like Piccolo, though his behavior often leaves them exasperated. Throughout the adventure, he shows little to no character development; he remains consistently unbothered, lazy, and unconcerned with the high-stakes battles around him. Even when he inadvertently facilitates the rise of a nearly unstoppable enemy, his reaction is muted, and he maintains his signature lackadaisical attitude.
Regarding notable abilities, Hybis does not display any significant combat prowess or unique magical powers. He demonstrates the basic ability to fly through the use of ki, a common skill in the Dragon Ball world. His true value, outside of being a source of humor, lies in his equipment. At one point, he possesses the Multiversal Radar, a device that can locate any location across all the universes. Most importantly, he is the unwitting owner of the Evil Third Eye, an artifact of immense dark power capable of granting its user absolute might. Beyond this, he is notable for what he does not do, namely, fight, as he actively avoids combat situations.
