Description
Degesu is a character from the Demon Realm and serves as a secondary antagonist. He is a member of the Glind race, originally hailing from the Demon Realm, which makes him a core person of that world. He holds the significant distinction of being the younger brother of two other major characters: Shin, the Eastern Supreme Kai of Universe 7, and the scientist Dr. Arinsu. This family connection places him in a unique position, caught between the divine hierarchy overseen by his brother and the political machinations of the Demon Realm. He acts as the trusted aide and right-hand man to Gomah, the self-proclaimed new Supreme Demon King who seized power after the death of the previous ruler, Dabura.

In terms of personality, Degesu is characterized by his cold, calculating, and deeply ambitious nature. He is portrayed as being more intelligent and cunning than his master, Gomah, often serving as the strategic brain behind their schemes. His defining trait is a profound resentment toward his older brother, Shin. He views Shin as a meddlesome and arrogant individual, and he harbors a strong dislike for Shin's compassionate philosophy of protecting mortals and humans. Degesu believes that divine beings should not interfere in the affairs of lower life forms, a philosophical stance that puts him directly at odds with his brother's role as a Supreme Kai. While he is hostile toward Shin, he maintains a more polite and formal, though somewhat distant, respectful relationship with his sister, Dr. Arinsu. His ambition is straightforward and powerful: to become the next Supreme Demon King, a goal he is not afraid to pursue through treachery.

Degesu's role in the story is that of a primary instigator and a direct antagonist to the protagonist group. He is present from the beginning, working with Gomah to spy on the battle against Majin Buu using a magic monitor. He supports Gomah's plan to travel to Earth, use the Dragon Balls to turn Goku and his friends into children, and kidnap the young guardian Dende. Throughout the adventure in the Demon Realm, he acts as Gomah's advisor, though his personal agenda eventually surfaces. His most notable action occurs during a confrontation at Gomah's palace. When Goku and his allies arrive to rescue Dende, Degesu attempts to flee with the child hostage. In a desperate and cynical act, he holds a gun to the infant Dende's head to prevent the heroes from attacking, demonstrating his willingness to do anything to achieve his goals. He explains that ambition is in a Glind's nature to seek higher positions, justifying his personal betrayal of Gomah to seize power for himself. However, his plan is foiled when he is attacked by Panzy and then decisively incapacitated by a single chop from Piccolo, after which he is captured by the Kadan Force.

Degesu's key relationships are the primary drivers of his character. His rivalry with his brother Shin is central to his motivation, representing a philosophical clash over the role of gods and a deep-seated personal jealousy. He is a subordinate to Gomah, but the relationship is one of convenience, as Degesu ultimately plans to betray him and take the throne for himself. In contrast, his relationship with his sister, Dr. Arinsu, is more neutral and respectful, though they operate independently with their own separate plans for the Demon Realm. His connection to the wider lore is significant, as his words and actions from Dragon Ball Daima help explain the nature of other evil Glinds, such as Zamasu from Dragon Ball Super, by suggesting that ambition and the desire for supreme power is an inherent trait of their race.

Degesu's character development is defined by his transition from a cunning advisor to an outright traitor. He begins as a loyal-seeming aide to Gomah, but his ambition to become the Supreme Demon King is a constant undercurrent. His arc culminates in his desperate betrayal during the palace invasion, where he exposes his true nature before being swiftly and unceremoniously defeated and taken prisoner. This defeat marks his exit from the main narrative, as he fails in his bid for power and is removed from the board.

Regarding notable abilities, Degesu is not depicted as a frontline physical fighter like Goku or Vegeta. Instead, his power is rooted in magic and strategy. He is knowledgeable about magical artifacts and can use magic items, such as the monitor used to observe the living world. He is capable of using telekinesis to halt an opponent's attack. His primary strengths are his intelligence, his strategic mind, and his role as a manipulator and planner, making him a dangerous adversary through his schemes rather than through brute force. His overall physical resilience is low enough that he can be defeated with a single strike by Piccolo.
