Description
Hestia is the goddess of the hearth, home, and family, who has descended from the heavenly realm to the mortal city of Orario. In the mortal world, her divine powers are largely sealed by her own choice to participate in the affairs of mortals, though she retains her immortality and agelessness. Her primary domain and divine authority revolve around domestic life and protection, which is reflected in her personality and actions. Upon arriving in Orario with nothing, she lived in an abandoned church and struggled to establish her own familia, initially receiving aid from the goddess Hephaestus. This humble beginning highlights her determination to build a thriving group of followers from the ground up.

In terms of appearance, Hestia is notably petite with a youthful, childlike face and long black hair styled into twin tails with white ribbons. She has large blue eyes and a small stature, which is contrasted by her prominent figure, a combination that has earned her an in-universe nickname. Her typical outfit consists of a short white dress adorned with blue ribbons, including one situated under her bust, along with white gloves and bare feet. This design is iconic and remains largely consistent throughout the series, though she occasionally wears other clothing for different contexts like part-time jobs.

Personality-wise, Hestia is energetic, optimistic, and hardworking, often taking on multiple menial jobs to financially support her familia. She is deeply kind-hearted and nurturing, embodying the ideal of a protective guardian for those under her care. However, she is also prone to jealousy and possessiveness, particularly regarding her first and most cherished familia member, Bell Cranel. Her affection for him is romantic in nature, which drives much of her pettiness toward other women who show interest in him and leads to comedic moments of childish behavior, such as sleeping in his bed. Despite these flaws, her compassion, clumsiness, and unwavering loyalty make her a relatable and beloved figure.

Hestia's primary motivation throughout the story is to protect and support Bell Cranel, helping him grow as an adventurer while ensuring his safety. She wishes to create a strong and harmonious familia, starting from her initial poverty to one that can stand on its own. Her role in the narrative is primarily supportive, providing guidance, emotional backing, and the divine blessing known as the Falna to her followers. The Falna is a blessing that enhances an adventurer's abilities, recording their growth and allowing them to level up. She is responsible for updating this status on her familia members' backs using her own blood. As a goddess, she cannot enter the Dungeon herself, so she operates from the surface, managing her familia and navigating the political and social landscape of the other gods in Orario, including her rivalries with deities like Loki and Freya.

Hestia has several key relationships that define her actions. Her most significant relationship is with Bell Cranel, whom she deeply loves and dotes on, acting as both a patron and a jealous romantic interest. She has a working relationship with the goddess Hephaestus, who helped her early on and forged a unique weapon for Bell called the Hestia Knife. She also has a notable rivalry with the goddess Freya, who also takes an interest in Bell, and the goddess Loki, whose familia is powerful and prominent. Within her own familia, she treats her members like family, and her bond with them grows as they face challenges together.

Over the course of the series, Hestia undergoes noticeable development. She begins as a somewhat naive and impoverished deity, but she matures into a more strategic and responsible leader. She learns to navigate crises that threaten her familia's stability and unity, demonstrating growth from a solely emotional supporter to a more capable and decisive figure. Her love for Bell, while still a central trait, is tempered with a greater understanding of her role and responsibilities.

In terms of notable abilities, Hestia's primary power is the Eternal Torch, also known as Protective Fire, which governs the sacred flame of the hearth. In the lower world, this power is weakened but can be used to produce purification flames that cleanse impurities and create protective barriers. As a virgin goddess, she is immune to charm effects, including those used by other deities like Freya, and can dispel them with her flame. She can also sense the locations and statuses of her familia members through her connection to their Falna, allowing her to monitor their well-being from a distance. While she lacks direct combat prowess, her abilities are focused on support, protection, and the empowerment of her followers, which is her greatest contribution to the story.
