Description
Angelina Kudou Shields, known as Lina, is a quarter-Japanese magician with blonde hair and blue eyes, typically securing two wavy tresses with ribbons. Her beauty rivals Shiba Miyuki's, earning them the shared moniker "Twin Beauties" among First High students. She employs illusion magic called Parade to adopt the alias Angie Sirius, appearing with crimson hair and golden eyes during missions. This identity serves within the USNA military's elite magician unit "Stars," where she holds the combat-designated title of Sirius as its most powerful magician. The title requires defeating its previous holder. Her rank is Major under the Sirius alias and Lieutenant Colonel as herself.

She is the granddaughter of Kudou Ken, expelled from Japan, making her grand-niece to Japan's magic community patriarch Kudou Retsu. This links her as a second cousin to figures like Fujibayashi Kyouko, Kudou Minoru, and Kudou Soushi. Identified as a rare talent in childhood, she trained within the USNA military and joined "Starlight," the Stars candidate unit, under instructor Second-Lieutenant Angelina Mizar.

Deployed to Japan as a First High exchange student after the Scorched Halloween incident, she investigated potential unregistered Strategic-Class Magicians like Tatsuya and Miyuki Shiba. Enrolling under her real name in Class 1-A, she became a temporary Student Council officer. Her cover involved exchanging places with Kitayama Shizuku. Though polite and friendly, information gathering proved difficult due to her tendency to fluster under scrutiny. Outdated Japanese fashion choices drew criticism from her subordinate, Sylvia Mercury First.

As Sirius, she specializes in high-speed, small-scale magic with invocation speed surpassing Miyuki's. Her capabilities include Strategic-Class Magic, particularly Heavy Metal Burst—developed with Abigail Stuart and controlled via the tactical weapon Brionac. Other spells encompass Molecular Divider, Dancing Blaze, Muspelheim, Spark, Mirror Shield, Hammer, Combustion Magic (used with her pistol), and Virtual Satellite Elevator. She possesses first-class physical combat skills augmented by extraordinary movement speed, alongside equipment like knife-integrated CADs, a data-fortified pistol, and a USNA thrust suit. She resists parasitic and mental interference magic.

Despite military dedication, Tatsuya assessed her as fundamentally too gentle for a soldier's mentality. She rigorously follows orders, including executing deserters, though such missions distress her, causing vomiting after initial experiences. Believing magicians must serve their country, she views her strength as uniquely fitting for heavy responsibilities. Interactions with the Shiba siblings challenge this worldview. After Tatsuya defeats her—her first loss as Sirius—and spares her identity, she develops unacknowledged romantic feelings for him. She later acknowledges his engagement to Miyuki and warns him of potential terrorist targeting. Her rivalry with Miyuki evolves into mutual respect and friendship, culminating in Miyuki influencing her defection from Stars.

Her relationships include Sylvia Mercury First, her Japan support personnel trusted like an older sister; Major Benjamin Canopus, her Stars mentor and second-in-command who acts as a father figure (he aids her escape during the Stars rebellion, prompting her to seek Tatsuya’s help to rescue him); Michaela Hongou, a spy supporting her investigations; and Chiba Erika, an adversary who deduces her Sirius identity in combat. After the Stars rebellion, she defects to Japan with Colonel Virginia Balance’s assistance. Naturalized as Toudo Rina through adoption by Toudo Aoba—a Yotsuba-arranged cover—she serves as Miyuki’s permanent bodyguard, replacing Tatsuya, with her livelihood guaranteed by the Yotsuba clan.
