Description
Chinatsu Kano is a main character who is introduced as a second-year student at Eimei Senior High and a member of the school's girls' basketball team. She is known as the team's ace and a player so talented that she is featured in sports magazines, garnering attention and popularity both within and outside of her school. Physically, she is a young woman of average height with fair skin and brown eyes, and she typically wears her straight, neck-length brown hair with bangs that frame her forehead. Her position on the court is small forward.

Regarding her personality, Chinatsu is deeply passionate about basketball, a pursuit that makes her appear tenacious and extraordinarily hardworking. This dedication is evident in her routine of coming to practice early in the morning to train on her own, a display of what many recognize as a master of effort. She is generally calm, collected, and humble despite her popularity, treating everyone with kindness and sincerity. Her demeanor is often reserved and poised, but she possesses a playful and lighthearted side that emerges around those she is close to. She is not particularly prone to romance and tends to hide her emotions, though she is known to be kind and selflessly supportive of her peers. Outside of sports, she has a few quirky traits, such as reading Weekly Shonen Jump and being afraid of bugs. She also has a reputation for being a bit airheaded or socially awkward, and she is notably not a morning person.

Her motivation is centered on winning at the national level in basketball. After her family moves overseas for work, she comes to live with the family of her underclassman, Taiki Inomata, as her mother is an old friend of his mother. This living arrangement becomes the catalyst for much of her development, as it forces her to balance her singular focus on athletics with her day-to-day life and the budding feelings she begins to develop. Her role in the story is that of Taiki's primary love interest and a source of inspiration for him, with the two supporting each other's athletic ambitions.

Her key relationships are central to her character arc. Her relationship with Taiki Inomata is the most significant; what begins as a friendly senpai-kouhai dynamic slowly deepens. Through their time living together and training alongside one another, she eventually reciprocates his romantic feelings. She shares a deep and enduring friendship with Karen Moriya, who serves as her closest confidante and the first person to whom she entrusts her feelings for Taiki. Her bond with Yumeka Goto is rooted in their shared history in basketball since elementary school. This friendship is marked by a period of misunderstanding after Yumeka left the team, but they eventually reconcile, with Chinatsu viewing Yumeka as her hero and a source of admiration.

Her character development is largely about opening up to romance and personal connections. Initially, by her own admission and through the observations of others, she is not someone who is easily swept up in romantic feelings, as her entire focus is on basketball. However, after moving in with Taiki's family, she grows much closer to him, and her feelings evolve from simple friendship to romantic love, a realization she initially keeps to herself. This journey transforms her from a girl singularly focused on sports to one who can balance that passion with a meaningful personal relationship. Her notable abilities are entirely centered on basketball, where she is considered a prodigious talent and the future ace of her team. Her hard work and skill are so respected that she is regularly profiled in sports publications.
