Description
Bonifatius is the grandfather of Rozemyne and the father of Karstedt, making him a senior member of the archducal family of Ehrenfest. He is the older brother of the former Aub Ehrenfest and, by birthright, was once the heir apparent to the duchy's leadership. However, he had no interest in ruling and actively advocated for his younger brother to become the successor instead, a decision their father only accepted on the condition that Bonifatius would train all future aubs, beginning with his own sibling.

Physically, Bonifatius is an imposing figure. He has light blue eyes and blond hair, and he possesses a muscular build that remains formidable even in his sixties. His appearance closely resembles that of his son, Karstedt, and he carries himself with a sharp, intense demeanor.

In terms of personality, Bonifatius stands out among nobles for his open and emotional nature. He greatly dislikes the practice of putting on a false face and generally shows his feelings without restraint, although he is fully capable of hiding them when the situation demands it. He is defined by his fierce devotion to his family. This is most evident in his relationship with his only granddaughter, Rozemyne, for whom he has an overwhelming fondness. For a long time, he was forced to keep his distance from her out of a genuine fear that his inability to fully control his immense physical strength could lead him to accidentally injure or even kill her. Despite this cautious separation, his concern for her is profound; for example, he persistently sent magical messages to the temple for nearly two years just to inquire about her condition. He is also a figure of great energy and intensity, preferring to trust his sharp instincts rather than engage in extensive planning. However, this does not mean he is unintelligent; he is a well-educated man who simply chooses to leave complex thinking to others when possible.

Bonifatius’s primary motivation is the strength and prosperity of his family and his duchy. He took on the role of training Ehrenfest’s future leaders and has dedicated himself to ensuring the duchy has the strongest possible knights. His life’s work, particularly in his later years, has become a personal mission to improve the duchy's knightly order, driven by a desire to earn glory and protect his granddaughter. He acts as a substitute lord when Aub Sylvester is absent, fulfilling his duties as a responsible member of the archducal family.

His role in the story is that of a powerful and intimidating, yet ultimately caring, patriarch. As the former commander of the Knight's Order, he is one of the most formidable warriors in Ehrenfest. He takes on the training of young knights, including Angelica, whom he accepts as his disciple, and Cornelius. His training regimen is notoriously brutal, but those who survive it become exceptional knights. He also takes part in the re-education of the guard knights and instructs the next generation of nobles, such as Wilfried, in their duties.

Key relationships define his role in the narrative. His bond with Rozemyne is central, transforming from a distant, feared connection to a more active one after her recovery from a long coma. He is very fond of Angelica, who greatly admires him as her master, and he actively tries to arrange for her to marry into his family. He also maintains a relationship with his son, Karstedt, and his former daughter-in-law, Elvira, holding a firm belief that Karstedt is Rozemyne's true father.

Bonifatius undergoes notable development. Initially kept away from Rozemyne due to fears for her safety, he begins to connect with her directly after she awakens from the jureve, allowing him to finally express his long-suppressed doting affection. His professional focus also shifts; he now dedicates his efforts to passing on his mastery of enhancement magic to a new generation of knights, making it his legacy project.

His abilities are exceptional. As a former archduke candidate, he possesses a vast mana capacity. He is a master of enhancement magic, a skill that uses mana to boost physical abilities. He is so proficient that he often activates it instinctively, enhancing his strength, speed, and senses to superhuman levels. This is a mana-intensive technique, but his large reserves allow him to use it liberally. Physically, he is extremely strong even without magic, able to easily lift and toss a grown man. After undergoing a ritual in the temple, he gained the divine protections of seventeen gods, which made him omni-elemental and further increased his power. Despite his age, his combat prowess, sharp instincts, and skill as a trainer make him one of the most valuable assets in Ehrenfest.
