Description
Gil is a gray priest who becomes one of Rozemyne's most dedicated attendants during her time in the Ehrenfest temple. He has short blond hair and dark purple eyes, with a face that initially gives the impression of a small troublemaker. When he first appears, he is roughly the height of the commoner boy Lutz, though he later experiences a growth spurt that makes him almost as tall as his senior fellow attendant, Fran.

Gil grew up in the temple's orphanage, an institution marked by severe neglect and deprivation. He was baptized at age seven and moved to the boys' wing as a gray priest, where conditions were slightly better but still provided very little food. Before becoming Rozemyne's attendant, Gil had a reputation as a sharp-tongued and disrespectful troublemaker. He was notorious for refusing to perform his cleaning duties and spent much of his time confined in the repentance chamber as punishment for his behavior.

This rebellious attitude changes dramatically when he is assigned to serve Myne, who at that time was an apprentice blue shrine maiden. Gil agrees to this arrangement not out of loyalty but because he reasons that serving a blue robe will provide him with better food than remaining in the orphanage. However, once Myne begins to acknowledge his work and offer tangible rewards for his efforts, his personality transforms. He becomes cheerful, enthusiastic, and remarkably hardworking, valuing his mistress's praise highly and striving constantly to meet her expectations.

Beneath his rough exterior, Gil possesses a genuinely kind heart. He is the first person to plead with Myne to improve the dire conditions in the orphanage, thanking her tearfully when she agrees to help. He personally brings food and supplies to the orphans, demonstrating a personal investment in their welfare that goes beyond mere duty. Even after his reformation, he retains some childish and impulsive traits, though these manifest more as eager enthusiasm than as insubordination.

In terms of his role within the story, Gil serves as one of Rozemyne's primary attendants, with his main responsibility being support for the printing workshop established in the orphanage. He becomes the attendant most deeply involved with the workshop operations and the commercial activities connected to the Gilberta Company. His practical skills prove valuable as he is placed in charge of the Myne Workshop and is later dispatched to various locations to teach papermaking and printing techniques to others.

Gil's key relationships are defined primarily by his connection to Rozemyne. He develops a deep sense of loyalty and respect for her, working hard to earn her approval. He also looks up to Fran, his more experienced fellow attendant, and the two work together closely in managing Rozemyne's household and the workshop. Gil perceives Lutz, the commoner boy who helps Rozemyne with her business endeavors, as a rival, viewing their competition as motivation to perform better. He also maintains strong ties to the other orphans, particularly those who come to work in Rozemyne's workshop.

Throughout his development, Gil learns what it means to be a proper attendant and a responsible worker. He initially does not know how to behave appropriately because he was never given genuine opportunities or emotional support before meeting Rozemyne. He harbors an underlying fear that Rozemyne will replace him as soon as he becomes useless, which drives him to put extra effort into every task he is assigned. This fear gradually subsides as she continues to value his contributions. His transformation from a neglected orphan who had given up on any hope of a better life into an enthusiastic and capable young man who takes pride in his work represents one of the clearest demonstrations of how Rozemyne's different approach to leadership changes the lives of those around her.

Notable abilities that Gil possesses include his skill in rallying and managing the younger children, particularly in workshop settings. He proves adept at learning and teaching the techniques involved in papermaking and printing, enough to be sent as an instructor to other locations. Under Rozemyne's guidance, he becomes a competent attendant capable of handling both temple duties and workshop management, though he can still struggle at times with the strict protocols of noble society outside the temple's familiar environment.
