TV-Series
Description
Fran is a grey-robed priest and a central figure among the temple attendants in the latter part of the series. He is a tall young man with light purple hair and brown eyes, possessing a strong and broad-shouldered build, though he was more frail in his youth. His demeanor is consistently serious, respectful, and dedicated to his duties, holding himself to exceptionally high standards. He experiences great frustration when he fails at a task and finds his greatest satisfaction in performing his job to the best of his ability. Fran has a strong aversion to rudeness and impropriety, which, combined with his polite nature, can make him appear standoffish to others.
His background is marked by significant hardship. Raised in the Ehrenfest temple orphanage, he became a gray priest after his baptism. As an apprentice attendant, he served Sister Margaret, a blue shrine maiden and the orphanage director. She was a cruel individual who used her position to sexually abuse the young gray priests under her care, including Fran, in a hidden room. This traumatic experience instilled in him a deep and lasting distrust of women, particularly blue shrine maidens. When Sister Margaret's actions were discovered, she fell into disgrace and ultimately took her own life. Fran felt profound relief at her death. Crucially, this period also created a deep-seated animosity from Arno, a fellow gray priest who was infatuated with Sister Margaret and blamed Fran for her downfall.
Following Sister Margaret's death, Ferdinand entered the temple and took both Fran and Arno on as his attendants. Fran grew to greatly admire Ferdinand's skill and worked diligently to serve him, eventually becoming one of his most trusted and valued attendants. When Myne (later Rozemyne) joined the temple, Ferdinand assigned Fran to be her head attendant. Initially, Fran resented this change, believing it signified that he had lost Ferdinand's trust. However, he eventually learned that Ferdinand had given him the role precisely because he was the most trustworthy attendant, a realization that deepened his loyalty and commitment to serving his new mistress.
In his role as head attendant, Fran is responsible for managing Rozemyne's other attendants, including Gil and Nicola, and ensuring her household runs smoothly. He is fiercely protective of her and deeply concerned with her image and treatment by others. He has exceptional control over his own emotions, but this composure can break when he perceives a direct threat or disrespect toward Rozemyne. For instance, when an orphan accused his mistress of not understanding the pain of being separated from family, Fran reacted with uncharacteristic anger, slapping the orphan. He often advises Rozemyne on how to maintain proper authority, cautioning her against being overly kind or permissive, as he fears it will lead to others exploiting her youth and gentle nature.
Throughout Part 3, Fran adapts seamlessly to Rozemyne's new status as the adopted daughter of an archduke. He immediately ensures that all the other attendants treat her with the proper respect due to a noble, helping to solidify her new position. His primary motivations are to serve his master faithfully, protect her from those who would take advantage of her, and live up to the immense trust placed in him by Ferdinand. His development sees him transform from a capable but resentful attendant into a loyal, proactive, and indispensable pillar of support for Rozemyne, drawing upon his painful past to guide his present actions. Notable among his abilities is his deep understanding of temple protocols and attendant work, cultivated from a young age, as well as his physical strength and his capacity for unwavering loyalty under pressure.
