TV-Series
Description
Cornelius is an archnoble and the third son of Karstedt and Elvira, making him a younger brother to Eckhart and Lamprecht as well as an older brother to Rozemyne following her adoption into the family. Initially, Cornelius is reluctant and upset when assigned to become Rozemynes guard knight, worried that accepting the adopted daughter of the late Rozemary would reignite old family conflicts. However, upon meeting his new sister, he quickly takes a liking to her and accepts his role with a much more willing attitude.
Personality wise, Cornelius is generally described as friendly and easygoing, though he develops a notably overprotective streak when it comes to Rozemynes fragile health. He frequently scolds her for acting recklessly and warns her other retainers that she could drop dead in an instant if they ever let their guard down. Despite this serious concern for her wellbeing, he also fully supports her ambitions and respects the tremendous hard work she puts into navigating noble society. He has a well known sweet tooth and is often motivated by the prospect of new foods or recipes, even going out of his way to be present whenever tasty dishes are being served. Early in his life, Cornelius spent much of his childhood as an underachiever, doing only the bare minimum required of an archnoble and lacking significant motivation. This changes over the course of Part 3, as he becomes more serious and disciplined, particularly after the traumatic events surrounding his sisters baptism.
As a guard knight, Cornelius serves as one of Rozemyne’s primary protectors within Ehrenfest Castle. His role in the story frequently involves escorting her, participating in her various schemes, and supporting her retainers. He becomes a key member of the Raise Angelicas Grades Squadron, taking on the brunt of the responsibility for tutoring his fellow knight Angelica, even though he himself struggles more with written academic classes compared to practical combat. Lured by the prospect of new foods, he once forces his way into serving as Rozemyne’s guard during a visit to the Italian Restaurant, despite being underage and technically not allowed outside the Noble’s District.
Cornelius’s key relationships are centered on his family and his liege lady. His bond with his mother Elvira is notable, as Rozemyne is encouraged to take over his former role of providing her emotional support. Among his siblings, he looks up to his older brothers while also developing a proud resolve to surpass them in mana capacity after learning Rozemynes mana compression method. He also forms a strong working relationship with the knight Leonore, as the two are said to be the fastest thinkers among the archnobles at the Royal Academy and the most suited to handle negotiations. His dedication to Rozemyne grows to the point where he admits he is considering serving her even after her original plan to have him as a guard only until she turns ten.
The most significant turning point in Cornelius’s development occurs during the events of Charlottes baptism. When Charlotte is kidnapped, Cornelius follows Rozemyne as she rushes off in pursuit. His quick reflexes allow him to save Angelica and Charlotte when they are thrown from an assailants highbeast, but while he is distracted, Rozemyne herself is captured in an enchanted net and dragged away to be poisoned. This failure to protect his sister haunts him deeply. Driven by regret, Cornelius dedicates himself wholeheartedly to grueling knight training under the archducal family’s patriarch, Bonifatius, alongside Angelica, Damuel, and Brigitte. This experience transforms him from an easygoing underachiever into a far more disciplined and capable knight.
In terms of notable abilities, Cornelius possesses considerable magical power. He has mana affinities for four elements: Light, Water, Fire, and Wind. He has also earned divine protections from several deities, including the Goddess of Light, Flutrane, Leidenschaft, and Schutzaria, as well as the subordinate gods Angriff, Steifebrise, and Verdraeos. After learning Rozemyne’s advanced mana compression method, his already large mana capacity increases significantly; by the age of fourteen, he estimates that he has already surpassed his father and expects to continue growing. For combat, he is capable of using enhancement magic to boost his physical capabilities. He can also summon a highbeast for transportation, which takes the shape of a winged wolf. While he relies heavily on his mana and excels in practical knight lessons, he does struggle comparatively more with written academic subjects, though he works hard to maintain grades that do not shame his family.
