Description
Pepesha Andrianov, also written as Pepesha Andreanova and known by the hero name Spirit, is Russia's representative hero in the anime Shy and a longtime mentor and close friend to the series' main character, Teru Momijiyama, who fights as Shy. She is a tall woman in her late twenties with a fair complexion and a well-known public image as a beloved national hero of Russia, admired by many for her heroic feats as well as her appearance.

Pepesha's most recognizable trait is her heavy drinking. She is frequently shown intoxicated and is closely associated with vodka, becoming noticeably more relaxed, outgoing, and talkative when she drinks. In this state she is blunt, assertive, and emotionally open, saying whatever is on her mind without hesitation. Without alcohol, she behaves very differently, turning quiet and reserved, and she once tells Teru that she would not even recognize her if she were sober. Her drinking is rooted in her past: her late mother Lenya also drank in order to express her emotions toward her daughter, and Pepesha inherited that habit as a way of letting her own feelings show. Her cheerful and bubbly exterior hides a difficult history, including the loss of her mother and time spent in an orphanage during childhood.

Despite her rough edges, Pepesha is a deeply caring and dependable person. She understands the harsh realities of being a hero and wants to pass that understanding on to others, especially to the younger and more uncertain Shy. When Teru withdrew from hero work after a public failure and became consumed by self-doubt, Pepesha was the first to search for her and offered encouragement that helped Teru find the courage to transform and save people again. She consistently supports Shy on rescue missions and offers guidance drawn from her own experience, acting as a warm, big-sister-like figure and an emotional anchor among the world's heroes.

In combat, Pepesha wears the pair of Heart-Shift Bracelets used by all heroes, which synchronize her heart spirit into power and allow her to transform into her hero form while also letting her understand and speak other languages. Her abilities center on the control of gases and smoke. She can manipulate smoke in the atmosphere, use it to search for civilians, trap enemies, and envelop opponents, and she can transform her own body into smoke, becoming intangible and immune to physical attacks. Her signature technique is the Gas Cannon, a powerful attack she uses to finish battles. She also possesses superhuman strength, speed, and endurance, and has shown herself capable of handling dangerous situations even before receiving formal hero training, such as apprehending a gang of robbers on her own.

Over the course of the story, Pepesha's past becomes more central as the narrative travels to Russia and explores her connection to the mysterious figure Tzveta Kooriskaya. These revelations deepen her character beyond the comic drunkard she first appears to be, showing the personal losses and emotional struggles that shaped her. She remains a loyal friend to Shy and a committed hero who protects people and supports the next generation of heroes, using both her powers and her empathetic nature to help those around her.
