Description
Kenjaku is an ancient and primary antagonist in Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3: The Culling Game Part 1, a sorcerer who has survived for over a thousand years by using his innate technique to transplant his brain into the bodies of others, discarding them when they no longer serve his purposes. This ability has allowed him to assume numerous identities across the centuries, including the infamous Noritoshi Kamo, known as the most evil sorcerer in history for his grotesque experiments that created the Death Painting Wombs. More recently, he inhabited the body of Kaori Itadori, becoming the biological mother and thus parent of the series protagonist, Yuji Itadori, specifically to create a suitable vessel for the King of Curses, Ryomen Sukuna. During the main story's timeline, Kenjaku possesses the corpse of Suguru Geto, a move that grants him access to Geto's formidable Cursed Spirit Manipulation technique and provides a deeply personal tool for psychological torment against Geto's former best friend, Satoru Gojo. In this form, he is identifiable by the prominent stitches across his forehead, the scar from his brain transplantation surgery.

Kenjaku's personality is a complex blend of detached curiosity, intellectual arrogance, and playful malice. He is consistently calm and calculating, rarely displaying panic and having his intricate schemes laid out far in advance. Despite his often cheerful and talkative demeanor, he is deeply egotistical and manipulative, viewing all other beings as tools to satisfy his boundless curiosity about the potential of cursed energy. He enjoys long monologues, educating his enemies even as he attacks them, and carries an air of condescension that infuriates allies and foes alike. His motivations are not driven by a desire for a world without cursed spirits, unlike Suguru Geto, but rather by a profound wish to push the limits of cursed energy itself. He perceives the current world of non-sorcerers, sorcerers, and cursed spirits as merely existing possibilities and believes that true evolution lies in creating uncontrollable chaos from which a higher potential can emerge. This goal, which he describes as being akin to a toddler with a crayon creating something just to see what happens, drives him to orchestrate events of immense destruction, such as the Shibuya Incident and the subsequent Culling Game, for his own amusement and intellectual satisfaction.

Within the story of The Culling Game Part 1, Kenjaku's role shifts from a mastermind in the shadows to the active game master of a deadly ritual. After using Mahito's Idle Transfiguration to awaken cursed techniques in thousands of people across Japan and resurrect ancient sorcerers, he initiates the Culling Game. This is a brutal battle royale designed to generate an immense amount of cursed energy as players fight and kill each other within ten designated colonies. Kenjaku has established a strict set of rules for the game, including awarding points for kills and allowing players who accumulate 100 points to negotiate for a new rule, provided he, as the game master, approves it. His ultimate purpose for the Culling Game is to serve as a catalyst for his master plan: to use the stored cursed energy to merge all of humanity in Japan with the immortal barrier master, Tengen, to create a single, new form of existence. This plan is the culmination of a millennium of careful preparation and manipulation.

Kenjaku's key relationships are defined by utility and manipulation rather than genuine connection. He is the mastermind behind the Shibuya Incident, tricking the disaster curses like Mahito and Jogo into working for him before absorbing Mahito once he outlived his usefulness. He formed a binding vow with Sukuna to split the king's soul into cursed objects, securing a powerful, if temporary, ally. He is the creator of the Death Paintings and is thus the parent of Choso, who now seeks to kill him for his betrayal and the death of their brothers. He was once a friend of Tengen, but now views Tengen as a passive shut-in and the key component of his final experiment. His relationship with Satoru Gojo is adversarial, defined by his successful gambit to seal the strongest sorcerer away, and he possesses the body of Gojo's slain best friend, Suguru Geto, to aid in this psychological warfare.

In terms of development within this part of the story, Kenjaku operates from a position of near-complete control. His true identity as the master planner is finally understood by the Jujutsu High team, who learn from Tengen that his goal is to force the evolution of humanity. While his ancient plan moves forward with the commencement of the Culling Game, he is not merely a passive overseer; he actively engages with players and continues to manipulate outside forces, such as tricking the United States military into sending its soldiers into the game colonies as sacrifices. He shows flashes of strange, paternalistic behavior, such as when he gently escorts Yuji’s former classmate out of a game colony, suggesting a warped sense of connection to his son. However, this does not detract from his role as the relentless driving force of chaos.

Kenjaku possesses a wide array of notable abilities that make him an exceptionally dangerous foe. His primary innate technique allows him to achieve immortality by transplanting his brain into new hosts, allowing him to use the bodies' original techniques. From his current host, Suguru Geto, he wields Cursed Spirit Manipulation, which lets him control countless cursed spirits and use their techniques, including the devastating Maximum Technique, Uzumaki, which can extract a spirit's technique for his own use. Using Uzumaki, he has acquired Mahito's Idle Transfiguration, granting him the power to reshape the souls of others. He also retained the technique of Yuji's mother, Kaori, which is the Anti-Gravity System, allowing him to control gravity in both normal and reversed applications. His mastery of barrier techniques is considered second only to Tengen's, which enabled him to construct the entire Culling Game system. His domain expansion, called Womb Profusion, is an open-barrier domain, a testament to his immense skill, and is suspected to involve gravity manipulation. Combined with his centuries of combat experience, high-level reverse cursed technique, and vast reserves of cursed energy, Kenjaku stands as one of the most powerful and dangerous sorcerers in the history of the Jujutsu world.
