Description
Megumi Fushiguro is a first-year student at Tokyo Jujutsu High and a grade 2 jujutsu sorcerer. He is the son of Toji Fushiguro, the infamous Sorcerer Killer, and through him a descendant of the Zenin clan, one of the three great families that dominate the world of jujutsu. Despite inheriting the clan's prized Ten Shadows Technique, Megumi was raised outside the clan after his father abandoned the family name. He was discovered in elementary school by Satoru Gojo, who became his guardian and mentor, enrolling him at Jujutsu High. His step-sister, Tsumiki Fushiguro, is the most important person in his life and the driving force behind his actions.

Megumi's personality is defined by a calm, aloof, and blunt exterior that masks a deeply held sense of personal justice. He is not a hero in the traditional sense; he explicitly states that he is a jujutsu sorcerer who saves people based on his own judgment, prioritizing those he considers good people who have been unfairly treated. This philosophy, summed up in his belief that he will help people unequally so that more good people can enjoy equality, sets him apart from the more idealistic Yuji Itadori. Megumi is introspective, often pessimistic, and carries a heavy sense of responsibility. He is easily annoyed by Gojo's playful antics but respects him as a teacher. Despite his stoic demeanor, he is capable of deep loyalty and concern for his friends, though he rarely expresses it openly.

His primary motivation throughout the series is to protect Tsumiki, who was cursed and fell into a coma before the events of the Shibuya Incident. In the Culling Game arc, which begins in Season 3, Megumi's goal becomes singular: to enter the deadly battle royale and rescue Tsumiki, who has been forced to participate by the ancient sorcerer Kenjaku. This mission drives him to become more strategic, ruthless, and willing to kill without hesitation, a stark contrast to his earlier reluctance to take lives. He enters the Tokyo No. 1 Colony with Yuji, but they are separated early on, forcing Megumi to navigate the game alone. He learns that trust is a liability, and he must rely on his own cunning and strength to accumulate points and add rules to the game that will allow Tsumiki to escape.

Role in the story of the Culling Game Part 1: Megumi acts as one of the primary protagonists, taking a central role in the Tokyo colony. He forms temporary alliances, such as with the comedian sorcerer Fumihiko Takaba, and engages in intense battles against enemy players like Reggie Star and his group. The arc showcases his tactical brilliance as he uses his shadow techniques and Domain Expansion to overcome opponents. However, the emotional core of his arc is the revelation that Tsumiki has been possessed by the ancient sorcerer Yorozu, shattering his hope and leaving him vulnerable. This despair is exploited by Ryomen Sukuna, who has long coveted Megumi's Ten Shadows Technique as a vessel. In a devastating turn, Sukuna forcibly incarnates into Megumi's body, killing Yorozu and Tsumiki, and breaking Megumi's will. Megumi is left trapped within his own body, powerless, while Sukuna uses his abilities to further his own goals.

Key relationships: Yuji Itadori is his closest friend and partner, though their differing philosophies often clash; Yuji's unyielding optimism and desire to save everyone contrasts with Megumi's selective pragmatism. Nobara Kugisaki is a classmate and teammate; they share a reluctant but effective working relationship. Satoru Gojo is his mentor and the one who gave him purpose, though Gojo's imprisonment in the Prison Realm leaves Megumi to act on his own. His father Toji, whom he briefly encountered during the Shibuya Incident, represents the dark legacy of his bloodline. Sukuna is the ultimate antagonist of his arc, having shown interest in Megumi since their first meeting and ultimately consuming him.

Development: Over the course of the series, Megumi grows from a reserved, duty-bound sorcerer into a more determined and desperate fighter. In the Culling Game, he sheds much of his earlier hesitation and embraces a more ruthless pragmatism, demonstrating that he will do whatever it takes to achieve his goal. This development culminates in his tragedy: his single-minded devotion to saving Tsumiki leads directly to his own downfall, as his emotional collapse allows Sukuna to take control. His character arc in this part is one of intense personal sacrifice and loss, setting the stage for his role in the larger conflict.

Notable abilities: Megumi wields the inherited Zenin technique known as the Ten Shadows Technique, which allows him to summon a variety of shikigami from shadows. These include the Divine Dogs (offensive tracking shikigami, with a combined form called Divine Dog Totality after one is destroyed), Nue (an electric owl used for aerial attacks), Toad (used for grappling and rescue), Elephant (produces high-pressure water), Serpent (surprise attacks, later destroyed), Rabbit Escape (a swarm for distraction), Deer (support ability), Ox (powerful charge), and the ultimate, uncontrollable shikigami, Mahoraga, which adapts to any attack and can only be used as a final resort. Megumi can also store and retrieve objects from shadows. He is proficient in hand-to-hand combat and the use of cursed tools. His Domain Expansion, Chimera Shadow Garden, creates a space of shadowy liquid where he can freely summon and manipulate multiple shikigami simultaneously and move through shadows. The domain is incomplete, lacking a guaranteed-hit effect, but it dramatically enhances his versatility in combat. Megumi also possesses large reserves of cursed energy, allowing him to sustain prolonged summoning. The Ten Shadows Technique is considered a lineage technique with immense potential, making Megumi a target for both the Zenin clan and Sukuna.
