Description
Malet, an 11-year-old Thai child and unauthorized immigrant in Japan, hides in isolation within an abandoned coal factory after being separated from their parents during a government raid targeting undocumented Thai immigrants. From this vantage point, Malet keeps vigil on the triangular-roofed houses where the family was discovered, hoping to spot parents who might have evaded arrest.

Survival hinges on scavenging supplies from trespassers. Deep distrust of adults, born of broken promises regarding work and shelter in Japan, drives Malet to initially rob the group of teenagers upon their arrival at the factory. Discovered by the teens, Malet gains their protection against immigration officers, and wariness gradually thaws into a cautious acceptance of their help.

Malet's intimate knowledge of the factory's layout and hidden passages proves pivotal during strategic defenses against authorities attempting to breach the building. Participation in these efforts fosters camaraderie and deepening trust with the teenagers over seven days.

Reunification with the parents is secured through a contact in the Thai community near Nanyo, facilitated by the teenagers' network. Following this reunion, Malet expresses gratitude to Mamoru with a kiss. This act reveals Malet is biologically female—a fact known to the other teenagers but previously unknown to Mamoru.
