TV-Series
Description
Chika Shiraishi is the mother of Marika Shiraishi, the elementary school student whose body is temporarily inhabited by the spirit of Takae Nijima. She is a supporting character whose personal struggles provide a significant emotional subplot within the story, exploring themes of parental failure and the potential for personal change.

Chika is a single mother who works part-time at a bento shop, striving to support herself and her daughter after a difficult divorce. Her outward appearance is that of an adult woman with brown eyes and neck-length brown hair, often depicted in a dress with jewelry such as a necklace and lipstick. However, her personality is marked by deep-seated pain and insecurity. She is a caring but profoundly conflicted person who often struggles to connect with her daughter. Her own childhood was devoid of maternal affection, having been neglected and, later as an adult, subjected to her own mother begging her for money. These traumatic memories have left a permanent mark, making her terrified of repeating the cycle of neglect and abuse with Marika. This fear manifests in contradictory behavior; at the start of the series, her stress and frustration can lead to emotional outbursts, and she is known to be verbally and physically abusive toward her daughter, a direct reflection of her own upbringing.

Chika’s primary motivation is to be a good mother, but her unhealed trauma constantly undermines this goal. She is haunted by the fear that she is destined to become like her own mother, a possibility that fills her with self-loathing and confusion about how to express love appropriately. Her role in the story intersects with the central premise when she notices her daughter behaving strangely and discovers that Marika has been secretly meeting with the Nijima family, a family of strangers. This discovery fills her with worry and confusion, pushing her to investigate the secret her daughter is keeping.

Her most significant relationship is, naturally, with her daughter, Marika. This relationship is strained and painful, characterized by distance and misplaced anger on Chika's part and fear on Marika's part. However, the arrival of Takae’s spirit as a warm and perfect maternal figure serves as a catalyst for Chika’s development. By observing her daughter’s changed behavior and through her encounters with the widower Keisuke Nijima, Chika is forced to confront the reality of her own actions. This leads to a crucial turning point where she experiences a Jerkass Realization; she understands that she has been treating Marika exactly as she was treated as a child. This realization horrifies her, and she resolves to break the cycle of bad parenting, vowing to become a better, more loving mother.

Chika does not possess any supernatural or notable physical abilities. Her significance lies entirely in her psychological journey from being an abusive parent trapped in a cycle of inherited trauma to a woman who consciously decides to change for the sake of her daughter. Her story arc is one of redemption and self-awareness, demonstrating that recognizing a flaw is the first step toward fixing it.
