Description
Ryoko Tsugumo, daughter of Yamato Airlines CEO Zenzou Tsugumo, met Shin Kazama and Satoru Kanzaki during an introductory flight lesson. She developed romantic feelings for Shin before he left for pilot training in Paris. After Shin vanished mysteriously, Ryoko discovered Kanzaki had deceived Shin into signing a mercenary contract with the Asranian Air Force during its civil war. This betrayal caused her to reject Kanzaki's romantic advances and ignited her resolve to find Shin.

Her discovery of Shin's situation happened coincidentally during a European business trip. Sharing a commercial flight with Area 88 commander Saki Vashtar, they survived an assassination attempt. Saki identified Shin and Mickey Simon as the pilots who thwarted the attack, showing Ryoko a blurry magazine photo confirming Shin's survival at Area 88. This prompted Ryoko to travel to Asran, though Kanzaki actively blocked her efforts. Later, while Kanzaki piloted a Mediterranean flight, Shin threatened to attack the civilian airliner after recognizing Kanzaki's voice. Shin narrowly aborted the attack when Kanzaki revealed Ryoko was aboard.

In the 2004 TV series, Kanzaki presented falsified evidence of Shin's death, leading Ryoko to reluctantly agree to marry him. She abandoned the wedding upon receiving photographic proof of Shin's survival from photojournalist Makoto Shinjou. In the manga and OVA narratives, Ryoko negotiated a transaction with Kanzaki: offering sexual compliance in exchange for his purchase of her Yamato Airlines stock at full value, intending to use the money to buy out Shin's contract. Police intervention during their hotel meeting prevented this arrangement, arresting Kanzaki for corporate malfeasance including embezzlement and involvement in a fatal aircraft crash caused by defective planes he authorized.

Following these events, Ryoko transitioned into the fashion industry in Paris alongside her father's former secretary, Taeko Yasuda. They co-founded a fashion brand, marking her departure from Yamato Airlines' corporate sphere. Later, she journeyed to Asran's capital during a critical military attack involving the subterranean weapon Grand Slam, demonstrating her ongoing connection to the conflict zone where Shin remained. Her arc concludes with her reunion with Shin after his service, though the reunion circumstances vary across adaptations.
