TV-Series
Description
Maria Mikhailovna Kujō, commonly called Masha, is a second-year student at Seirei Private Academy and the older sister of Alisa Mikhailovna Kujō, known as Alya. She serves as the secretary of the student council. Within the school, she is widely regarded as the Madonna of the Academy due to her beauty, warmth, and an almost maternal presence that draws others to her. Her first language is Russian, and she learned Japanese later in her childhood; she has recalled being told by other children to speak Japanese properly, which shaped her early experiences with language.

Masha’s personality is characterized by her kindness, openness, and competence. She carries herself with a gentle confidence that makes her approachable, and she often takes on a nurturing role toward those around her. Under stressful situations, she tends to revert to speaking Russian, a trait that ties into the series’ broader theme of hidden feelings and language as a means of expressing genuine emotion. Despite her generally composed demeanor, she can be somewhat oblivious at times, which adds to her endearing nature.

Her primary motivations revolve around supporting her younger sister Alya, whom she cares for deeply, and navigating her own romantic feelings for Masachika Kuze. Masha is in love with Masachika and makes efforts to keep that affection private, though she has on occasion revealed it to him. Her role in the story is that of a main supporting character and tritagonist. She provides emotional grounding and encouragement, especially during the student council election arc, where her position as secretary puts her in close contact with the main characters.

In terms of relationships, Masha shares a strong, protective bond with Alya, and her dynamic with Masachika is marked by mutual affection that she tries to conceal. She interacts positively with other members of the student council, including Yuki Suō and Chisaki Sarashina, and is well-liked among the student body. Over the course of the story, Masha develops further as she balances her responsibilities, her hidden romantic feelings, and her desire to see her sister happy. Her notable abilities include fluency in both Russian and Japanese, adept organizational skills as student council secretary, and a natural talent for putting people at ease, which makes her an effective mediator and confidante.
