Description
Mio Stout is the mother of Reisalin Stout, commonly known as Ryza, and the wife of Karl Stout. She is a farmer living on Kurken Island and is one of the supporting characters in Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout. She is a 40-year-old woman with black hair and blue eyes.

Her personality is family-oriented and grounded in a strong work ethic. She frequently nags her daughter to help with household chores and assist Karl with farming work. Mio values diligence and is straightforward when she feels that Ryza is neglecting her responsibilities. She is often exasperated by Ryza’s lack of interest in daily tasks and her persistent desire to go on adventures. Mio disapproves of Ryza’s passion for alchemy, viewing it with skepticism and wariness toward the outsiders who introduced it to her daughter.

Mio’s role in the story is primarily that of a familial hurdle for Ryza. She represents the ordinary, duty-bound life that Ryza is trying to escape, and her constant demands for help serve as a counterpoint to Ryza’s adventurous spirit. Despite her frustration, Mio cares for her family and wants Ryza to grow into a responsible adult.

Mio shares a close but contentious relationship with her daughter, Ryza, and a cooperative partnership with her husband Karl. She has a long-standing friendship with Samuel Marslink, a companion from her own youth. In contrast, she is distrustful of the alchemist Empel Vollmer, whom she views as a questionable outsider.

Over the course of the series, Mio appears in multiple entries, including Atelier Ryza 3: Alchemist of the End & the Secret Key, but her fundamental role as a concerned, hardworking mother remains consistent. She does not undergo major character development, instead serving as a stable, grounding presence in Ryza’s life.

Her notable abilities are practical rather than combat-oriented: she manages the household, farms the land, and oversees the family’s daily needs. Her experience in farming and domestic work makes her a competent provider within the Stout family.
