Description
Gannos is a prominent character in the second story arc of Battle B-Daman, known as Fire Spirits!. He is a young boy, approximately ten or eleven years old, with bright orange hair and blue eyes. His appearance is highly distinctive, taking clear inspiration from prehistoric styles. Gannos typically wears a green elephant-themed hat complete with white tusks and designs, a red tank top, and a torn brown cloth over his shoulders. He also sports large wristbands, a loincloth-like skirt, and a green belt with orange holders. A large stone tomahawk is his signature accessory. Standing 132 centimeters tall and weighing 37 kilograms, his birthday is December 24th.
In terms of personality, Gannos is an energetic and highly self-confident individual who always strives to reach his goals. His uplifting yet often grating demeanor is frequently compared to that of the main protagonist, Yamato. Gannos has a notable tendency to brag and repeat the same topics of conversation, which can come across as annoying to others. He possesses a strong personal sense of sportsmanship and morality, but he is also known for being both a sore loser and a sore winner, making him a complex and fiery competitor. This competitive nature fuels his role in the story.
Gannos is introduced as a rookie B-DaPlayer who immediately establishes himself as a major rival to the hero, Yamato. He initially challenges Yamato to various non-B-Daman contests, beating him every time, before dominating him in B-Da Battles as well, reportedly winning 270 consecutive matches. Gannos's personal journey is heavily driven by his desire to improve as a blaster. A significant early goal is his search for a powerful part known as a Strike Shot. He enters a trap-shooting tournament where he wins the Metal Shot. However, he finds the prize is too heavy for his B-Daman, leading him to give it to Yamato.
Gannos's most significant character development occurs during a visit to a B-Daman crafting village. After being captured for trespassing, he defends the villagers from a B-Daman-wielding gang, using his unusual ability to battle with his feet to scare them off. In gratitude, the villagers gift him a stone prototype B-Daman named Break Ogre. When the gang returns for revenge, a village girl returns the prototype to Gannos, and Yamato gives him back the Metal Shot. By combining the heavy Metal Shot with the stone Break Ogre, the B-Daman transforms into a powerful, fully functional unit. With this new partner, Gannos develops his signature special move, the Metallic Stamp, to finally defeat his enemies.
His key relationships are primarily with the main cast, particularly Yamato, who remains his friend and primary rival. He also interacts with characters like Terry McScotty, Joe, and later Grey and Akyulus (also spelled Aqulas) as the group unites against a common enemy. Gannos shows contrasting social behavior, often being rude and hyper-competitive with Yamato while displaying politeness and respect toward others like Joe and Terry. His motivations are tested in one episode where his party returns to his hometown. He lies to the village elders, claiming he won a major tournament, which leads to them arranging his marriage to a girl named Hannah. The celebration is disrupted when the elders are revealed to be enemies in disguise. After he is defeated and his friends step in to save the day, Gannos admits the truth and promises to genuinely win first place next time, showing his capacity for honesty and growth.
Beyond his core ability to battle with his feet and his physical strength, Gannos's notable abilities center on his use of Break Ogre, which is classified as a Power Type B-Daman. It features a Drive Core that gives the marble a spinning forward motion for powerful knock-downs. His ultimate technique, the Metallic Stamp, is his most powerful attack. His abilities are put to the test against skilled opponents, and he suffers a notable defeat against Akyulus, who uses a superior strategy to overcome Break Ogre's raw power. Later, as the series progresses toward its climax, Gannos participates in high-stakes team battles, fighting alongside his friends to protect the B-DaWorld from the machinations of the antagonist organization, B-Deus.
