TV-Series
Description
Haruka Hanabishi is a fourteen-year-old student who transforms into the magical girl Magia Magenta, one of the three members of the heroic team known as Tres Magia. Born on April 30, she stands 156 centimeters tall and is a classmate of Utena Hiiragi, unaware that Utena is secretly her enemy, Magia Baiser. Haruka is the eldest sister to three younger triplet siblings named Natsuna, Akiho, and Mifuyu, and her experience caring for them has contributed to her naturally nurturing demeanor.
In terms of personality, Haruka is the most bright and energetic member of her team, known for her excellent communication skills and friendly, pure-hearted nature. She is extremely outgoing, often taking the initiative to speak with reserved classmates like Utena or lonely children like Korisu Morino. This caring attitude extends to her teammates, as she prepares lunches for Sayo Minakami and Kaoruko Tenkawa, which has earned her the affectionate nickname of "mama" from Kaoruko. However, her pure and trusting nature also makes her extremely naive and gullible. She has a tendency to fall for obvious traps, such as following a torn doll into an alley that led into an enemy's dollhouse or being tempted by a suspicious invitation to rest in a dungeon. Her lack of common sense is displayed in moments like playing in a children's sandbox to build an elaborate mushroom sculpture while ignoring the annoyed children around her. Her fashion sense is similarly unconventional, as her casual clothes often feature random English words such as "Dynamo," "Cyclone," or "Pantalon". Despite these quirks, she possesses a strong sense of duty as a magical girl and remains brave even in humiliating or compromising situations.
Within the story, Haruka serves as the heart of the Tres Magia, driven by a sincere desire to protect her friends and the peace of everyday life. Her motivations are simple and pure she wishes for happy, peaceful days and hopes to be a strong and cool ally to her teammates. She deeply admires the strength and skill of Sayo and Kaoruko, and though she sometimes feels left behind when they achieve new powers, she responds with support rather than jealousy, wanting nothing more than to be useful to them. Her role is also notable as she is often the first of her team to sense that their enemies, the Enormeeta, might have motives beyond simple destruction, even if she cannot imagine their true perverse intentions.
Her key relationships are built around her team and her circle at school. She shares a close bond with Kaoruko Tenkawa, who has developed romantic feelings for Haruka, though Haruka remains completely oblivious to this, treating Kaoruko with the same warm and natural friendliness she shows everyone. She is also kind to the lonely Korisu Morino, failing to realize that the quiet girl is her enemy, Nero Alice, despite noticing their similar mannerisms; this disconnect is partly due to recognition inhibition magic that prevents her from connecting their civilian and transformed identities. Similarly, she is friendly with her classmate Utena Hiiragi, not knowing that Utena transforms into her tormentor, Magia Baiser.
Haruka undergoes notable development as she faces challenges that test her role as a magical girl. While Sayo and Kaoruko achieve a powerful evolved state called La Verità, Haruka initially cannot, leading to feelings of frustration and inadequacy. When she is later controlled by Magia Baiser and forced to attack her own comrades, she is filled with deep shame and regret. However, this experience eventually allows her to unlock her own corrupted version of La Verità, known as the Fallen Medic form. In this state, she adopts the appearance of a fetishized nurse, wielding a giant syringe and gaining prehensile hair that she can use to attack and ensnare enemies. Her personality in this form shifts, as she abandons her usual reserved beliefs about intimacy and adopts a more overtly teasing bedside manner.
As a magical girl, Haruka wields a magical staff that transforms into a lance, specializing in direct close-quarters combat where she charges at opponents without hesitation. Her primary ability is healing magic, which is considered the strongest of the Tres Magia and is so potent that recipients describe the sensation as remarkably pleasant or even euphoric. In her corrupted La Verità form, her healing powers expand to also restore magical energy, not just physical wounds, setting her apart as a powerful support unit. The recognition inhibition inherent to all magical girls prevents civilians and even her enemies from connecting her transformed identity to her civilian life. Aside from her magical duties, Haruka has simple tastes, with her favorite food being nametake, a type of seasoned mushroom, and she has recently developed an obsession with playing whack-a-mole.
