Description
Michiru Kiryū is a former antagonist from the series Futari wa Precure Splash Star who reappears as a supporting character in Power of Hope: Precure Full Bloom, the adult-oriented sequel that follows the lives of former Pretty Cure heroines years after their original adventures. Originally a denizen of Dark Fall, Michiru was created by the villain Akudaikan and served as a guardian of the infiltrated Fountain of Sky alongside her sister Kaoru Kiryū. She first appeared as a transfer student in the class of protagonists Saki Hyuuga and Mai Mishou, sent to investigate the strength of the Pretty Cure. In those early appearances, Michiru displayed a cold and emotionally distant demeanor, though she was notably more sociable and outwardly cooperative than her sister. She is highly intelligent and athletic, with short red hair and red eyes.

As the story of Splash Star progressed, Michiru began to develop genuine bonds with the people of the Land of Greenery, particularly through her interactions with Saki and Mai. This emotional growth caused her to question her allegiance to Dark Fall. In a pivotal turning point, Michiru and Kaoru used their remaining power to save Saki and Mai from Akudaikan, sacrificing themselves in the process. They later returned to assist the Precure in a subsequent battle, having fully reformed and received the power of the light element, becoming Cure Bright. This transformation allowed her to fight alongside the heroines as an ally rather than an enemy.

In Power of Hope: Precure Full Bloom, set fourteen years after the events of Yes! Precure 5 and Precure Splash Star, Michiru appears as an adult. She is listed as a supporting character, appearing alongside her sister Kaoru. While the series primarily focuses on Nozomi Yumehara and her friends from Yes! Precure 5, Michiru and Kaoru are present in the adult world, interacting with the established cast and providing continuity from the Splash Star storyline. Their role is modest but meaningful, representing how former villains have found a place in the ordinary world after redemption. Michiru’s relationship with her sister Kaoru remains central: they are inseparable and often act as a pair, having grown beyond their origins as creations of Dark Fall to become individuals with their own identities and friendships. Her presence in the series underscores themes of change, forgiveness, and the ability to build a new life after a troubled past.

Notable abilities from her earlier appearances include her athletic prowess and, after receiving Cure Bright’s power, the ability to perform the combined attack Spiral Heart Splash Star alongside Cure Bloom, Cure Egret, and her sister. In Power of Hope, she does not transform or fight as a primary combatant, but her history as a former villain turned ally informs her quiet, observant nature and her supportive role within the larger group of adult Precure veterans.
