Description
Chalce is a major recurring antagonist in Pokémon Horizons: The Series, serving as one of the admins of the Explorers, a mysterious organization. Her name is derived from "chalcedony," a type of mineral, and she is known in Japanese as Agate.

Before joining the Explorers, Chalce worked as a schoolteacher in her hometown. Her school was forced to close due to a lack of funding, a loss that deeply affected her. It was during this vulnerable time that she was approached by Hamber, who recruited her into the Explorers with the promise that she could earn enough money to eventually build a new school. Under Hamber's training, she became the fourth and final admin to be recruited, joining after Amethio, Coral, and Sidian.

Chalce is an adult woman with brown skin, black eyes, and long, thick dark brown dreadlocks. Her hair is often adorned with large trapezoid accessories. She wears a distinctive outfit consisting of a white long-sleeved shirt, a dark orange skirt, and multiple belts around her waist. Her personality is generally calm, collected, and highly intellectual. She tends to be critical and direct with her colleagues when they fail in their missions, and she possesses a dry, sarcastic sense of humor.

As the intellectual of the Explorer admins, Chalce is heavily involved in research, gathering knowledge, and designing or operating technology to further the organization's goals. She is a skeptic by nature, dismissing fantastical rumors, such as those found in the magazine Occulture, as nonsense. Her primary motivation throughout the series is tied to her past as a teacher; her cooperation with the Explorers, and particularly with Spinel, is driven by her desire to secure the funds needed to build a new school. While she is dedicated to this goal, her journey shows a transition from a compassionate educator to a more ruthless individual willing to withhold information from the public to advance her agenda.

In her role within the Explorers, Chalce is often partnered with fellow admin Spinel. The two share similar methods, specializing in information gathering, discretion, and subterfuge. She has proven to be particularly aligned with Spinel's ambitions, helping him monitor targets and participating in schemes to remove rival Amethio from the picture. However, her alliance with him is complicated; she has subtly expressed discomfort with his most ruthless extremes and, when questioned by Hamber, implied their partnership is one of convenience rather than genuine loyalty. Among the Rising Volt Tacklers, Chalce has a notable intellectual rivalry with Dot, whom she confronts on several occasions.

Chalce has been involved in several key operations. She was part of the mission to summon the Black Rayquaza near Levincia using a machine that mimicked Terapagos's energy. Later, she infiltrated Naranja Academy under the assumed identity of a teacher named Salsifis. While there, she kept watch over Liko and forged enrollment permits for Coral and Sidian. She also attempted to hack the academy's computer systems to steal research data on Terapagos. In the series' final arc, she fought against the Rising Volt Tacklers in the utopia of Laqua and was present when Spelin took control of the Explorers following Gibeon's disappearance.

Chalce's primary known Pokémon is Medicham, her long-time partner whom she had since her days as a teacher. Like its trainer, Medicham is calm and reserved but also fiercely loyal and protective. Medicham has been used in battles against the Black Rayquaza and against Dot's Pokémon. It is a capable fighter, known to use moves such as Psybeam, Zen Headbutt, and Confusion. During the conflict in Laqua, Medicham was able to Mega Evolve into Mega Medicham to battle against Hamber's Ursaluna. Chalce also possesses a Xatu, which she primarily uses to teleport herself away from danger or to escape after completing an objective.
