Description
Dot, also known online as Nidotina, is a supporting character in Pokémon Horizons: The Series. A skilled programmer and a member of the Rising Volt Tacklers, she lives aboard the airship Brave Olivine. Dot is the niece of the ship’s chef, Murdock, and has a close relationship with her mother, Franca, who lives off the ship. Before joining the group, Dot struggled to find inspiration for her work as a content creator, feeling she lacked the personal experience needed to make her videos engaging. She was a fan of the streamer Kissara, who inspired her to become Nidotina. Friede, a Pokémon professor and the leader of the Rising Volt Tacklers, was aware of Dot's technical abilities and asked her to develop an app for his team. Though she initially refused, Kissara encouraged her to see more of the world, leading Dot to join the adventurers on the condition that she could return home if her mother felt she had been away too long.
Dot has purple hair and purple eyes. Her personality is defined by her reclusive nature, as she rarely leaves her room on the Brave Olivine, preferring to interact with the world through her online persona, Nidotina. She is initially shy, socially anxious, and reluctant to spend time with others, often communicating with Liko and Roy by leaving drawings outside her door. Despite her introverted tendencies, she is dedicated, intelligent, and a gifted computer expert. As the series progresses, she begins to open up, accepting invitations to participate in group activities like making sandwiches and curry.
Dot's primary motivation is to create engaging content as Nidotina, a famous streamer who makes videos on various topics related to the world of Pokémon. Her role in the story expands from a distant, behind-the-scenes tech support member of the Rising Volt Tacklers to a more active participant in the team’s adventures. She uses her programming skills to manage the technology aboard the Brave Olivine and the Pokédex used by the group. Her secret identity as Nidotina is a central part of her character arc, and she eventually reveals the truth to her friend Liko.
Key relationships shape her development. Her connection with her uncle, Murdock, is important, as he looks after her and tries to coax her out of her room, for instance, by leaving freshly made doughnuts where she will find them. Her friendship with Liko is a major catalyst for her growth; Liko is a fan of Nidotina and unknowingly helps Dot feel more comfortable. Dot also befriends a Quaxly living on the airship, which later becomes her first official Pokémon partner. She regards the streamer Kissara, who helped her find the courage to join the Rising Volt Tacklers, as an older sister figure.
Dot experiences significant development as she gradually overcomes her social anxiety. Early on, she refuses Liko’s offer to share food but later agrees to making sandwiches together. She takes her first steps outside for an extended period to help search for a lost Liko, a journey that leaves her exhausted. She also participates in her first official Pokémon battle alongside Liko and Roy. By the time she confesses to Liko that she is Nidotina, she has formed a strong bond with her friends and become a more integral and courageous member of the team.
As Nidotina, Dot’s notable abilities include her wide knowledge of Pokémon, which she shares with her online audience. As a programmer, she is responsible for creating the technological infrastructure for the Rising Volt Tacklers. In battle, she demonstrates competence and teamwork, coordinating with her Quaxly and friends in combat situations.
