Description
Murdoch is a supporting character from Pokémon Horizons: The Series and a member of the Rising Volt Tacklers, the adventurer team that travels the world aboard the airship Brave Olivine. He serves as the group's official chef, responsible for preparing meals for the crew and their Pokémon. Despite his large build, broad shoulders, and thick dark beard, which give him an initially intimidating appearance, Murdoch is one of the friendliest and most caring members of the team. He is naturally attentive to his teammates' well-being, often checking on them and offering food or support, sometimes to the point of being overly protective or persistent.
Before joining the Rising Volt Tacklers, Murdoch worked as a pastry chef. He once ran a small bakery with a close friend named Mitchell, where the two had a friendly rivalry: Murdoch specialized in strawberry-based pastries while Mitchell focused on matcha flavored creations. Murdoch's partner Pokémon at the time was an Alcremie, which helped them by producing abundant cream. When the Alcremie evolved into a Ruby Mix form, Murdoch was overjoyed, but Mitchell felt disappointed because he had hoped for a Matcha form. The evolution made Murdoch's pastries even more popular, leading to growing resentment from Mitchell. After a heated argument in which Mitchell pushed the Alcremie away, the partnership ended, and Murdoch left with his Pokémon. This experience shaped Murdoch's understanding of how success and friendship can sometimes clash. Eventually, Murdoch was recruited by Friede, the captain of the Rising Volt Tacklers, and took on the role of the team's cook.
Murdoch has a strong sense of family loyalty. His younger sister is Franka, and her daughter, Dot, is his niece. Murdoch spoke highly of Dot to Friede, which led to Friede recruiting her for the Rising Volt Tacklers. Franka agreed to let Dot join on a trial basis, with the condition that Murdoch send regular reports about her.
