Description
Anne is a recurring character in Pokémon Horizons: The Series who is first introduced as a student at Indigo Academy. She becomes the first friend and roommate of the main protagonist, Liko. Hailing from the Kanto region, Anne has never left her home region prior to her enrollment at the academy, which makes her particularly excited to learn that Liko is from the distant Paldea region. Her family consists of an older sister and a younger brother, and she is the middle child.

In terms of personality, Anne is an energetic, extroverted, and somewhat impatient girl who rarely stays still. She has a noticeable habit of being messy, as seen when Liko first meets her while she is frantically searching her disorganized side of their dorm room for a toothbrush. Despite her untidiness, she is considerate, generally keeping her mess confined to her own space and not bothering others. Anne is also incredibly supportive and encouraging, particularly toward her friend Liko. When Liko worries about her lack of a strong bond with her partner Pokémon Sprigatito, Anne is the one who advises her to take the time to study and understand her Pokémon better. She is genuinely kind, attentive to the feelings of others, and serves as an open and enthusiastic friend who helps draw the more reserved Liko out of her shell.

Anne's role in the story is that of a close friend and confidante to Liko, providing a connection to her life before joining the Rising Volt Tacklers. Even after Liko leaves the academy to travel the world, the two maintain their friendship through regular video calls on their Rotom Phones, during which they share news about their respective journeys and new Pokémon. Unlike Liko, who is on a path of discovery, Anne knows from an early stage that she wants to be a Pokémon Trainer focused on battles. Her primary motivation and main goal is to one day compete in the Pokémon League. Over time, she develops significant skills and gains a strong reputation within Indigo Academy, which leads to her receiving invitations to other prestigious institutions, including an invitation from Director Cyrano himself to join an exchange student program at Blueberry Academy.

Anne's key relationships are centered on her friendship with Liko, which is consistently portrayed as a solid and mutually supportive bond. She also forms positive connections with Liko's other friends, Roy and Dot, when she temporarily enrolls at Naranja Academy for Terastal Training. During this time, she grows quite close to the Paldean students Nemona and Penny, even receiving personal training from Nemona. Her bond with her own Pokémon is exceptionally strong. She is deeply attached to them, considering them the biggest reason she pursues her dreams. Her team members are all very close and friendly with each other as well.

Anne demonstrates notable development throughout the series. She begins as a beginner Trainer like Liko, receiving an Oshawott as her first partner Pokémon at the Indigo Academy's welcoming ceremony. Her skills as a Trainer steadily progress; her Oshawott eventually evolves into Dewott and later into Samurott. She also catches her second Pokémon, a Sandshrew, which later evolves into Sandslash. A year after the main events begin, Anne has matured significantly, replacing her previous hairstyle with pinned flowers and gaining enough prestige to be scouted by other academies. A deeper layer of her character is revealed when she identifies with Liko's Hattrem, recognizing the Pokémon's behavior as stemming from "middle child syndrome," as Anne herself is the middle sibling in her family who often feels she must accommodate the desires of her older sister and younger brother.

In terms of notable abilities, Anne proves herself to be a versatile and strategic battler. Even when her Dewott was at a type disadvantage against Liko's Floragato, it managed to hold its own effectively. Her strategic thinking was analyzed and praised by Rika, a member of the Paldea Elite Four, who noted that Anne skillfully uses specific moves to cover her Pokémon's weaknesses. This tactical ability, combined with her energetic drive and clear goal of reaching the Pokémon League, establishes her as a talented Trainer who has earned the respect of her peers and instructors alike.
