Description
Hassa, known in the original Japanese version as Hassaku and in English as Hassel, is a character who appears in the anime series Pokémon Horizons: The Series. He is a prominent figure in the Paldea region, simultaneously holding the positions of a member of the region's Elite Four and an art instructor at Naranja Academy.

Hassa comes from a long line of Dragon-type Pokémon trainers originally from a faraway, unnamed region. As a young man, he ran away from his family home to pursue a dream of making music. His journey eventually led him to the Paldea region, where he became a respected member of the Pokémon League as one of its Elite Four, specializing in Dragon-type Pokémon. In addition to his league duties, he chose to become a teacher at the academy, instructing students in art.

In terms of personality, Hassa is known for being gentle and friendly. His most distinctive trait is his overwhelming emotional nature, as he is prone to bursting into tears of joy when he witnesses another person's growth, character, or achievements. This emotional response is a sign of his deep sincerity and pride in the progress of those around him, particularly his students. He is a caring and encouraging teacher who is very proud of his students' efforts. He also has a habit of adding an honorific suffix to the names of people he considers friends.

Within the story of Pokémon Horizons: The Series, Hassa makes his first appearance alongside fellow Elite Four member Rika in episode HZ046, where he is part of the welcoming party for protagonists Liko, Roy, and Dot upon their arrival at Naranja Academy. He later appears in HZ048 during the annual Artazon Art Festival, where he assists with event preparations. It is during this festival that he discovers that Liko is the daughter of Alex, an artist he knows. Hassa takes the young protagonists to meet Brassius, the Gym Leader of Artazon, and evaluates the art projects created by the students. He is also present to watch Roy's Terastal battle against Brassius.

In a subsequent episode, HZ055, Hassa takes part in an Elite Four Tag Battle. He partners with his Pokémon against Roy and Brassius, emerging victorious in the match. Beyond these specific events, he serves as a figure of authority and support, observing the young trainers' progress and battles, including watching Liko battle against another student named Ann. He is also shown to be involved in academy life, such as teaching a class where students are painting the Pokémon Gible.

A key relationship for Hassa is his friendship with the Grass-type Gym Leader Brassius. In the past, Hassa acted as a mentor to Brassius during times when the artist struggled with insecurity. This history establishes Hassa as a nurturing figure who helps others find confidence, not just in battling but in their creative and personal endeavors as well. He maintains a strong, positive connection with Brassius and the wider Paldea region's leadership, including other members of the Elite Four and Top Champion Geeta. His role in the series is largely tied to his duties at the academy and his position within the Paldea League, where he helps oversee and guide the next generation of trainers.

Hassa is a Dragon-type specialist, reflecting his family's long history with this Pokémon type. In the anime, his known Pokémon include a Gible, a Flapple, and a Baxcalibur. He is shown to be a powerful and skilled trainer, capable of winning official Tag Battles against other formidable opponents. His abilities extend beyond battling, as he is also a talented art instructor.
