Description
Pagogo is the nickname of a Terapagos, a Normal-type Legendary Pokémon, that appears throughout Pokémon Horizons: The Series. For much of its early history, Pagogo existed in a dormant state, taking the form of a pendant that was passed down through the family of the character Liko. The pendant was originally given to Liko by her grandmother Diana, and it was only later revealed to be a hibernating Terapagos. About a hundred years before the events of the anime, the Terapagos had been found by Rystal, Liko's great-great-grandmother, in Paldea's Great Crater. It followed her around, and she happily caught it and nicknamed it Pagogo, making it her only known Pokémon. At some point afterward, Pagogo entered its dormant pendant state and remained that way until it was awakened during the story. As of the episode Fiery Galarian Moltres, Pagogo has permanently changed into its active state.
In terms of personality, Pagogo is shown to be overall friendly around people and Pokémon alike. It forms a close bond with the rest of Liko's team, especially with Charcadet, as Pagogo was the one that encouraged Charcadet to join Liko's party. It is occasionally seen offering Charcadet a ride on its back, and it generally stays close to its trainer, as it is seen most of the time outside its Poké Ball.
Pagogo's role in the story centers on the mystery surrounding it and its connection to the past. Because it originally belonged to Rystal, who was connected to the legendary adventurer Lucius and the group known as the Six Heroes, Pagogo is tied to the larger history of those heroes and their Pokémon. The villainous organization known as the Explorers seeks to capture Pagogo, which makes it a recurring target throughout the anime. Its awakening and its bond with Liko also connect to a message sent by a White Zygarde, which sought out a worthy trainer to inherit the Six Heroes and Pagogo, ultimately leading it to Liko and Roy. Liko becomes Pagogo's current partner, and Pagogo becomes the first Pokémon Liko catches in the land of Kitakami, as well as her third Pokémon overall.
Over the course of the story, Pagogo develops from a mysterious dormant object into an active, expressive Legendary Pokémon with its own will and personality. Its relationship with Liko deepens as it becomes a member of her team, and its presence gradually reveals the connection between Liko's family history and the larger legend surrounding Lucius and the Six Heroes. Its permanent change into its active form marks a significant step in that development, allowing it to take a more direct role in the events of the story.
As a Terapagos, Pagogo is a Legendary Pokémon of the Normal type, and the species is known for its connection to the phenomenon of Terastallization, taking on a different form when Terastallizing. Pagogo's dormant pendant form and its later active form reflect this ability to change forms, and its Legendary status places it among the more significant Pokémon in the anime.
