Description
Jyubei Aryu is a contender in the Blue Lock Project, first appearing as a forward who held the number two rank in the Second Selection before later playing as a center-back for the Blue Lock Eleven. He is a third-year high school student from Tochigi Prefecture who stands at an impressive 195 centimeters, which, combined with his very long limbs, makes him one of the tallest and most physically distinctive players in the program.
Aryu possesses an eccentric and deeply narcissistic personality, driven by an all-consuming philosophy he calls Osha, a personal term for what he considers stylish, beautiful, and aesthetically supreme. He evaluates everything and everyone through this lens, showing respect and even admiration for opponents he deems stylish, such as when he complimented Hyoma Chigiri on his hair. His speech and mannerisms are flamboyant, and he constantly seeks to perform actions in the most glamorous way possible, with his greatest ambition being to live and die with style. Despite his immense self-confidence, he has a notable insecurity regarding his own name, Jyubei, which he feels is old-fashioned and clashing with his modern aesthetic; he often tries to overcome this complex by striking stylish poses whenever it is mentioned. His background is unique, as he was born into a family that runs an antique shop, and his early exposure to traditional beauty led him to consciously rebel by forging his own concept of modern style, Osha. Before fully committing to soccer, he had considered careers as a musician or a monk.
Aryu's supreme weapons on the field are his exceptional jumping power and his unfair long reach, which he uses to dominate aerial battles and control space in ways his opponents cannot match. He functions effectively as a goal poacher when on the attack, using his height to meet crosses with powerful jumping headers, as seen when he scored against Seishiro Nagi and Chigiri by intercepting a long pass from Meguru Bachira in midair. In defensive situations, his extended reach allows him to steal balls from players who think they are in a safe position, and he has made critical defensive plays, most notably using a reverse kick to block a powerful shot from Sae Itoshi during the match against the Japan U-20 team in the final minute of the first half.
Throughout the selections, Aryu has formed several key relationships based on performance and mutual respect. He initially teamed up with the top-ranked Rin Itoshi and the third-ranked Aoshi Tokimitsu, forming a formidable trio in the Second Selection where their team defeated the squad of Yoichi Isagi, Bachira, and Nagi. He later demonstrated strong on-field chemistry with Bachira, whose creative passes allowed Aryu to fully utilize his aerial abilities to score. Aryu also showed an ability to coordinate powerfully in defense when paired with the exceptionally tall Yukio Ishikari. His development sees him transition from his original role as a forward to becoming a reliable center-back in the Blue Lock Eleven, where his unique physical gifts are valued for stopping opposing attacks. In the Neo Egoist League, he chose to play for the Italy-based team Ubers, believing he was called there by a sense of style, and he accumulated increasing bid salaries, raising his market value to 45 million yen after a match against England.
