Description
Koharu Hondomachi attended a police academy, earning high marks that secured her recruitment as a field operative for the Kura department under Kokuryu Matsuoka. Her relationship with her mother remains strained. Initially a rookie field analyst, Hondomachi assists Matsuoka in tracking serial killers using the Wakumusubi device, which detects "cognition particles" signaling murderous intent. She exhibits early curiosity about the Mizuhanome system and id wells, expressing interest in diving despite warnings that only those with "killer aptitudes" can enter. Her analytical skills emerge during the Perforator case when she identifies a tilted sign clue and senses a matching murder impulse.

Kidnapped by serial killer Tamotsu Fukuda during that investigation, Hondomachi intentionally triggers his drill to create an id well, aiding her team’s capture of him. This results in a drill wound on the right side of her head, mirroring Fukuda’s injury—a turning point that amplifies her preexisting psychological instability.

In the Gravedigger case, she deduces the killer’s connection to suspect Haruka Kazuta, recognizing his head injury distorted murderous intent into a kiss. She later kills Kazuta in self-defense, an act implying she derived pleasure from it. This event and her deteriorating mental state lead Matsuoka to reluctantly recommend her as a Mizuhanome pilot.

As a part-time Mizuhanome pilot, she adopts the identity "Brilliant Detective Miyo Hijiriido" within id wells. Her partnership with Akihito Narihisago strengthens as they collaborate to expose John Walker’s real-world identity as Chief Hayaseura.

Hondomachi displays a complex personality: highly driven, analytically brilliant, and proactive, yet increasingly reckless with a morbid fascination for death. Her head injury exacerbates unstable tendencies, though her core determination persists. Despite Fukuda’s attempt on her life, they develop mutual respect. Her dynamic with Narihisago evolves into a trusted partnership.

Her surname combines "hondo" (main hall/temple) and "machi" (town), while "Koharu" means "late summer." Like other characters, her name references alcoholic beverages.
