Description
Azumi Hayakawa is a French Nikkei young woman who attended the same school as Taro Misaki during his two and a half year stay in Paris. She first appears in the story during the Paris gathering for the International Junior Youth tournament.
Azumi has a tomboyish personality, reminiscent of how Sanae Nakazawa used to be. Because of her spirited and dependable nature, Taro Misaki introduces her with the nickname Frances Anego, a term that implies a respected female leader or big sister figure. While she holds a deep affection for Misaki and cheers for him passionately, their relationship does not appear to be romantic at the time.
Her primary motivation is her support for Taro Misaki, and she proves to be a crucial figure for him during difficult periods. In high school, after Misaki falls into a slump due to his inability to win against Kojiro Hyuga and struggling to play without Tsubasa Ozora, Azumi comes to the stadium to cheer for him. Her presence and encouragement are credited with helping Misaki finally break free from this slump.
Azumi plays the role of a dedicated supporter for both Misaki and the All Japan Junior Youth team. She and her classmates from France come to cheer for the team during the International Junior Youth tournament. At the end of the tournament, she is happy for Misaki's success. When Misaki returns to Japan, she bids him farewell with a smile and gifts him a soccer ball and training wear, though she cries after his plane departs.
Her key relationship is with Taro Misaki. She also takes significant action on his behalf during the Battle of World Youth arc. When Misaki suffers a broken left leg from a traffic accident, Azumi actively searches for a good doctor and introduces him to the specialist Dr. Hiroyuki Shibazaki, demonstrating her resourcefulness and care for his well-being. Her development is shown through her consistent loyalty and her ability to provide the emotional and practical support Misaki needs to overcome his personal and professional challenges. Azumis notable abilities are not athletic but rather her strength of character, her role as an emotional anchor, and her resourcefulness in finding help for Misaki in a time of crisis.
