Description
Naoto Jinno is the male protagonist of the visual novel and anime series Makai Tenshi Jibril 3, a teenage boy with short blue hair and blue eyes who is portrayed as an ordinary high school student. At the start of the series, he confesses his long-held feelings to his childhood friend Rika Manabe, and the two begin a romantic relationship. His background establishes him as a sincere and caring person who values the people close to him, though he is initially powerless when confronted by supernatural forces.

His personality is defined by a sense of responsibility and protectiveness toward those he cares about, especially Rika. When a devil named Asmo appears and attempts to take Rika away, Naoto tries desperately to intervene but finds himself helpless against demonic power. This event marks a turning point in his character, as he becomes acutely aware of his own limitations in a world where angels and devils are real. He frequently feels burdened by the fact that he cannot fight directly and must rely on others to protect the people he loves.

Naoto's primary motivation throughout the story is to keep Rika and his stepsister Hikari safe from harm. In Makai Tenshi Jibril 3, a new threat emerges when Misty May returns and abducts Hikari. Naoto is initially despondent, feeling that there is nothing he can do to rescue her. His motivation deepens when he encounters Nagi, a blue-haired android girl who is the New Angelic Gaia Interface designed to fight against the devils. He comes to understand that his role is not to fight directly but to support the angels by providing them with Amore, a vital energy source. This realization forces him to make difficult personal choices in order to save Hikari and protect Rika from further danger.

Within the story, Naoto serves as the central human link between the ordinary world and the supernatural conflict. He is the one who enables the angels to fight by providing them with the energy they need, and his relationships with the female characters drive the plot forward. His role is largely supportive rather than combative, as he lacks any special powers of his own. He acts as an anchor for the angels, grounding them in the human world and giving them a reason to keep fighting beyond mere duty.

His key relationships are defined by emotional bonds and mutual reliance. With Rika Manabe, he shares a romantic connection that predates the series, and their relationship deepens as they face supernatural threats together. Rika becomes the angel Jibril, and Naoto's bond with her is the emotional core of the story. With Hikari Jinno, his stepsister, he has a familial relationship that becomes complicated when she also becomes involved in the angelic conflict. Hikari's abduction in the third installment is a major emotional driver for Naoto's actions. With Loveriel, the angel who first appears to save them from Asmo, Naoto develops a relationship of trust and cooperation, as she explains the larger conflict between heaven and hell. With Nagi, the android interface, he shares a unique connection built on the necessity of the battle against the devils, and his interactions with her highlight his willingness to make sacrifices for the greater good.

In terms of character development, Naoto evolves from a helpless bystander into someone who actively participates in the struggle against demonic forces, even if his participation takes a non-combat form. He grows more willing to accept the harsh realities of the angel-devil conflict and to take responsibility for the consequences of his choices. His understanding of love and sacrifice deepens as he repeatedly puts himself in difficult positions to support the women who fight in his place. By the end of Makai Tenshi Jibril 3, he has accepted his role as the provider of Amore and has become more resolute in his determination to protect those he loves, regardless of the personal cost.

Regarding notable abilities, Naoto possesses no innate combat skills or supernatural powers. His sole function within the conflict is his ability to generate and provide Amore, the essential energy that allows the angels to transform, fight, and recover their strength. This energy is produced through intimate acts, and Naoto is described as being responsible for giving the angels Amore, a role that places him at the center of the series' mechanics. Beyond this, his strength lies in his emotional resilience and his capacity to make difficult decisions under pressure. He does not wield weapons or engage in direct combat, and his value to the story comes from his relationships rather than any personal power. His physical appearance is that of a typical teenage boy of average build, and he is often seen wearing a school uniform.
