Description
Meimi Otonashi, also known in her transformed state as Misty Mei, is a central figure in the narrative of Jiburiru: Second Coming. She is portrayed as a student and a classmate of Naoto Jinno. Her background reveals a degree of isolation, as her father works as a pilot for an international airline and her mother is a designer, leaving Meimi alone at home for extended periods. This loneliness plays a significant role in her emotional life, as she harbors a deep, unrequited romantic affection for Naoto.

Meimi's initial personality is defined by her quiet longing for Naoto, which transforms into intense jealousy upon witnessing him confess his love to her rival, Rika Manabe. This emotional vulnerability is exploited by the devil Asmodeus, who possesses her and transforms her into the dark magical warrior known as Misty Mei. As Misty Mei, her personality becomes an extension of her negative emotions, acting as a direct antagonist to Rika, who is empowered as the holy angel Djibril. Her primary motivation in this state is to attack Rika and claim Naoto for herself, serving as a tool for the demonic forces in their ongoing conflict against the angels.

In Jiburiru: Second Coming, Meimi's role evolves. The demon Rococo appears to her and forcibly separates the Misty Mei power from her body using an attack called the Eternal Arm. This act is a turning point, as Meimi did not willingly relinquish this dark power; it was extracted from her against her will. Following this separation, her primary motivation shifts from revenge to a desire to escape her circumstances and return to a normal life, though her influence on the main plot diminishes significantly.

Key relationships drive her story arc. Her unrequited love for Naoto is the catalyst for her initial downfall, while her jealousy creates a direct and hostile rivalry with Rika. The demons Asmodeus and later Rococo use her as a pawn, with Rococo's intervention ultimately severing her connection to the supernatural conflict.

Meimi undergoes a distinct but passive development. Her journey begins as a love-struck student who is manipulated into becoming a villain. In the sequel, she is stripped of that power and largely removed from the central narrative, becoming a victim of the circumstances she was once part of. Her path does not lead to redemption through battle but rather to a forcible return to normalcy, after which she is largely forgotten by the ongoing story involving Naoto, Rika, and the new angels.

As Misty Mei, she possesses the abilities of a dark magical heroine, strong enough to battle the angel Djibril. Her power is noted to derive from a specific and substantial energy source, which ties directly to her transformed state and its requirements. After her separation from Misty Mei, she loses these supernatural abilities and no longer plays a role in the magical conflicts of the series.
