Description
Dr. Ōedo serves as the lead scientist and director of the Promete Project, based on Tobishima Island. In this capacity, he oversees the development of both the space carrier Jasdum and the combat robot Danguard Ace, a machine intended as Earth's last hope for reaching the resource-rich planet Promete after other global initiatives were destroyed by the antagonist, Chancellor Doppler. After the astronaut Dantetsu Ichimonji disappeared and was accused of betraying the first Promete expedition, Dr. Ōedo took in Dantetsu’s son, Takuma Ichimonji. He raised the boy and mentored him as a candidate to become the pilot of the Danguard Ace, believing that the young man could restore his family’s honor through the project’s success. Demonstrating a practical and perceptive nature, Dr. Ōedo also recruited the mysterious masked pilot known as Captain Dan after observing his exceptional flying skills during a Doppler attack. Despite the pilot’s amnesia, Dr. Ōedo appointed him as the chief instructor for the Danguard Ace cadets.

Dr. Ōedo is characterized by an intense dedication to technological innovation and problem-solving. His analytical approach prioritizes logic and adaptability, yet it is paired with an unwavering confidence in the Danguard Ace machine. Although he is reserved by nature and often works alone or with a small team, he is deeply committed to Earth’s defense against Doppler. One of his key story functions is revealing the true identity of Captain Dan as Dantetsu Ichimonji, Takuma’s father, who had been brainwashed and escaped Doppler’s control. This revelation comes to light as Captain Dan struggles with illness and fragmented memories, a condition Dr. Ōedo actively works to treat. In terms of his engineering abilities, Dr. Ōedo initially designed the Danguard Ace for unarmed settlement purposes. However, he later adapted it, equipping it with weapons salvaged from enemy Mecha Satan units. His leadership involves making high-risk decisions, such as when he opposed Takuma’s unauthorized launch in the Satellizer module during an enemy attack, reflecting his protective attitude toward the young cadets under his command.
