OVA
Description
Geronimo Jr., designated Cyborg 005, is a supporting character in the crossover anime. He is a tall, powerfully built Native American man with deeply tanned skin, black hair styled in a mohawk, and distinct red tribal markings on his face. In battle, he wears a large red double-breasted military uniform with a high collar, gold buttons, a yellow scarf, and black boots. His civilian attire consists of a tan, heavily fringed top and pants.
Before becoming a cyborg, Geronimo Jr. lived in Arizona. He faced significant hardship and unemployment due to widespread racist attitudes against Native Americans, which prevented him from finding stable work. After numerous unsuccessful attempts, he finally secured a job, only to be approached by a man in a black suit with an offer for a better-paying position. This was a trap set by the criminal organization Black Ghost, who kidnapped him and forcibly converted him into the fifth model of their 00 Cyborg series.
Geronimo Jr. has a silent, stoic, and gentle personality. He is soft-spoken, choosing to speak only when he feels it is necessary. Despite his intimidating and formidable appearance as a giant of a man standing around eight feet tall, he has a noble heart and is deeply protective of his comrades. Having no family of his own, he views his fellow cyborgs as a surrogate family and is fiercely loyal to them. His Native American heritage gives him a profound love and respect for nature, and he harbors a strong hatred for those who would disrespect it, particularly Black Ghost and their destructive experiments. When he does choose to speak, his words often carry wisdom that serves to inspire and motivate the team.
His motivations are rooted in protecting his new family and defending the natural world from threats. He fights to prevent others from suffering the same fate he did and to stop the kind of destruction and corruption that organizations like Black Ghost represent.
In the story of Cyborg 009 vs. Devilman, Geronimo Jr. is present with the other cyborgs during the battle on Magma Island. Later, at Dr. Gilmore's home, his deep connection to nature manifests as a spiritual sixth sense; he is the first to sense a disturbance, which Cyborg 001 confirms is the presence of a devil. During the team's search for this entity, they are ambushed by the demon Lilith, who traps the men in illusions of idealized women. Geronimo Jr. is less easily fooled than the others due to his empathetic abilities, though he is still momentarily distracted. Following the crash of their ship, the Dolphin, he participates in the subsequent battles, using his immense strength to fight the High-Teen Number Cyborgs, including a cyborg named Cain. He works in coordination with his teammates, following the tactical guidance of Cyborg 003, to subdue their powerful new enemies.
His key relationships are with his fellow 00 Cyborgs, whom he sees as his family. He is particularly shown conversing with Albert Heinrich, Cyborg 004, demonstrating a bond of trust and camaraderie among the team members. He acts as a shield for his comrades, using his durability to protect them.
Geronimo Jr. does not undergo a significant personal transformation within the scope of this specific OVA, instead serving as a stable, reliable, and protective force for the group. His role is consistent as the team's steadfast anchor.
Notable abilities include cybernetic super strength, making him the physically strongest of the 00 Cyborgs. His strength is sufficient to smash or hurl heavy objects like armored tanks. He also possesses heavily armored synthetic skin that is highly resistant to damage, allowing him to withstand enemy fire from missiles and infantry shells with minimal harm. This durability and power make him the team's frontline ground infantry and a living tank. Additionally, he has a form of empathy or spiritual sense that allows him to detect imbalances in nature and the human heart, which also provides him with a degree of resistance to mind control.
