Description
Eva Maria, also known by her designation Cyborg 0015, is a central figure introduced in the crossover anime. She is a slender young woman with long blonde hair, often held back by a pale blue headband, and distinctive dark blue eyes that lack visible sclera, giving them a unique, sparkling appearance. In her civilian guise, she dresses as a typical Japanese high school student, wearing a gray vest over a white blouse with a sailor collar, a black pleated skirt, and knee-high stockings. When she reveals her true nature as a cyborg, her attire shifts to a black uniform with silver buttons, a white scarf, and red seams on the shoulders and boots, the standard gear for the High-Teen Numbers.
Her background is steeped in tragedy and manipulation. Eva, along with her fraternal twin brother Seth, was born and raised as an intentional mutant in a secret Black Ghost facility in Canada. After her brother fell into a comatose state, the villainous Dr. Adams took him for an experiment to fuse a demon with a cyborg, convincing Eva this process would cure him. Driven by a desperate, all-consuming devotion to saving her brother, she plays a double agent, cooperating with demons and Black Ghost while secretly plotting to free Seth from Adams's machinations.
To achieve her goals, Eva transfers to a school in Japan under the alias Eva Maria Parallels. On the surface, she presents herself as kind, quiet, and somewhat reserved, a shyness born from the heavy thoughts weighing on her mind. Having led an incredibly sheltered life, she is genuinely curious about ordinary existence, often observing the daily life and family of her classmate Miki Makimura with a sense of longing. This curiosity is sincere, yet it serves a tactical purpose, as her real mission is to befriend Miki and Akira Fudo, the human host of the demon Amon, to use them as bait to draw Devilman to Dr. Adams's base.
Throughout the story, Eva’s role is that of a tragic antagonist who is not truly malevolent. Unlike the other High-Teen cyborgs, she holds no real animosity toward the main 00 Cyborgs and has no interest in fighting them. Her actions are consistently motivated by her plan to save her brother. This leads her to orchestrate Miki’s abduction, though she takes care to ensure Miki is not physically harmed. Her plan unravels when she witnesses Seth being forcibly merged with the demon Atun, creating a monstrous entity known as the Cyborg Daemon. Seeing Atun take over her brother's mind, she falls into despair and immediately turns against Dr. Adams, realizing his betrayal.
Her key relationships are defined by this singular drive. Her bond with her twin brother Seth is the core of her entire character, and her actions are a desperate attempt to rescue him from a fate worse than death. Her relationship with Miki Makimura is complex; she views Miki as a friend and a window into a normal life she never had, yet she is willing to manipulate that friendship for her mission, always striving to keep Miki safe from true harm. She also forms a crucial alliance with Cyborg 001 from the main 00 Cyborg team, whose psychic abilities are necessary to help her perform her most powerful technique.
Eva undergoes a clear and poignant development from a desperate pawn to a self-sacrificing hero. Initially, she is willing to do anything, even betray innocent people, under the false hope that Dr. Adams can cure her brother. When the fusion results in Atun seizing control and Seth’s consciousness seemingly vanishing, she abandons all pretense and fights against the demonic entity. In the final act, with the help of Cyborg 001, she uses her astral projection ability to enter the merged being of Atun and Seth. She successfully pulls her brother’s consciousness free, allowing his soul to finally find peace. This act, however, comes at the ultimate cost; the combined strain of her previous injuries and the psychic effort proves fatal. Her final moments depict her at peace, having achieved her only goal, with her fate left as a somber and definitive conclusion to her arc.
As a cyborg designated 0015, Eva possesses a range of notable abilities. Like the other High-Teen Numbers, she has an accelerator that allows her to move at mach speeds, often augmented by a psychic aura that can blow back obstacles. She also has a self-repair function that allows her to recover from injuries quickly. Her primary powers are psychic in nature, including telepathy and telekinesis. She can use her telekinesis to move objects, fire bolts of yellow force, create protective force fields, and even freeze opponents completely in place. Her most significant and taxing ability is astral projection, which allows her to separate her soul from her body to travel in a spiritual form. However, this technique is so physically exhausting that she requires assistance from another powerful psychic, such as Cyborg 001, to use it effectively over long distances.
