Description
Kunihiko Kimishima is a seventeen-year-old resident of the Lost Ground who acts as a close friend and vital supporter to Kazuma. He is a businessman by nature, relying on a wide network of connections to gather valuable information and procure jobs that require an Alter user. His initial meeting with Kazuma is transactional, as he seeks out an Alter user who is not overly particular about the work he takes for money, but this professional start quickly deepens into a tight, brotherly bond. Kimishima has no family of his own, and he slots into a protective, familial role beside Kazuma and Kanami Yuta.
In terms of personality, Kimishima presents himself as somewhat pompous and willingly ignorant at times, yet he takes his work seriously and is fiercely loyal to those he cares about. He is pragmatic and unafraid to place himself in dangerous situations to support his friends, showing bravery that far exceeds the limits a non-Alter user might ordinarily accept.
His chief motivation is to support Kazuma financially and operationally, and to safeguard Kanami. He cares genuinely about the safety of the Lost Ground and resists the oppressive actions of HOLY. In the story, Kimishima first appears early, functioning as Kazuma’s source of missions and money. When HOLY captures him and Kanami to lure Kazuma into a trap, he escapes, steals a vehicle, and races to Kazuma’s aid. In the process he is shot by pursuing forces. He never mentions his wound and continues to help until they reach Kanami, where he collapses and dies. That death becomes the catalyst that plunges Kazuma into a grief-driven fury and touches off a major conflict.
His key relationships center on Kazuma, with whom he shares a bond as close as brothers, and Kanami, whom he treats with protective warmth. He also holds a crush on Ayase Terada, a fellow Lost Ground inhabitant. In the manga continuity he survives the events of the story and eventually marries Ayase.
Though Kimishima possesses no Alter power, he is resourceful and skilled with a handgun, and he demonstrates considerable talent for obtaining vehicles and supplies. A recurring humorous element is that almost every vehicle he acquires ends up destroyed, frequently through Kazuma’s unintended actions. His development moves him from a somewhat arrogant middleman to a selfless ally who gives his life in defense of his friends, marking him as a memorable supporting presence who profoundly influences the protagonist’s path.
