Description
Hidow, known by the epithet Hidow the Clamp, is a character from the anime Ishura. He serves as the twentieth minister of the New Principality of Lithia and is a young aristocrat within the Aureatia Kingdom, holding the rank of twentieth official. Despite being described as an arrogant heir, he possesses exceptional talent and enjoys considerable popularity among the people.
Hidow plays a key strategic role in the events leading to a conflict between the New Principality of Lithia and Aureatia. He is introduced while investigating the unexplained deaths of Aureatian soldiers, which leads him to confront the dangerous prisoner Nihilo, known as the Vortical Stampede. Recognizing the need for powerful allies to counter the threat posed by Taren the Guarded, a former general of Aureatia, Hidow seeks to form an alliance. He meets with the warriors Yuno the Distant Talon and Soujirou the Willow-sword, proposing a deal: if they assist him in the upcoming war, he will ensure one of the twenty-nine officials supports their entry into a major competition to choose a hero. Hidow provides Yuno with information about the destruction of her former village, attributing the act to Dakai, Taren's right-hand man, which successfully motivates her to join his cause.
As the conflict escalates, Hidow is shown to be a calculating commander. When Aureatia is attacked by a powerful beam and threatened by Taren's wyvern army, he formulates a defense, deploying multiple assets on different missions. He gives the order to release and deploy Nihilo, instructing her to destroy the enemy wyverns, and also sends Kuze the Passing Disaster on an assassination mission. Throughout these events, he is seen strategizing with another official named Harghent.
Hidow's key relationships are primarily strategic. He views Nihilo as one of his most powerful assets and a weapon of war, keeping her imprisoned until she is needed. He also forms a temporary alliance with Yuno and Soujirou, using the promise of political support to secure their battlefield assistance. He is also noted to be a supporter of another powerful warrior, Alus the Star Runner.
The narrative does not focus on personal development for Hidow, instead presenting him as a consistently pragmatic and authoritative figure whose role is to orchestrate the movements of more overtly powerful characters. Regarding his abilities, no direct information about personal combat skills is provided. Hidow's strength lies in his political position, strategic planning, and his management of exceptionally dangerous individuals as assets for warfare.
