Description
Dakai the Magpie is a prominent character known as a Visitor, an otherworldly being who has been exiled from his original world to the realm of Ishura. He serves as the primary enforcer and spy for Taren the Guarded, also known as Taren the Punished, a general and founder of the New Principality of Lithia. In this role, Dakai is tasked with traveling abroad to retrieve valuable magical items, such as the Cold Star from the Great Labyrinth, and with hunting down and eliminating agents of Aureatia who are hidden within Lithia.

Dakai possesses a complex and often contradictory personality. He is an unmatched master thief who revels in his freedom and his ability to steal whatever he desires from others. He takes immense pride in his skills as a bandit and is known to swiftly correct anyone who mistakes him for a warrior or a swordsman. Despite this pride in thievery, he has a significant appetite for violence and will eagerly throw himself into dangerous fights, not out of duty, but for the thrill and challenge of pushing his abilities to their limit. He is described as eloquent and someone who enjoys banter and conversation, yet he ultimately has little regard for the feelings of other people, viewing them as sources of personal entertainment. He considers concepts like friends and family to be luxuries he has never had. However, he is not entirely without a code or loyalty. He is occasionally willing to help those who earn his respect, such as his employer Taren and the young Yuno the Distant Talon. Dakai also claims that despite being a bandit, he never lies.

Dakai's role in the story is largely defined by his service to Lithia and his confrontations with other powerful champions. He is a key asset in the conflict between Lithia and Aureatia, single-handedly annihilating a group of Aureatia's Secret Service agents who were disguised as merchants. His primary motivation appears to be the pursuit of personal enjoyment and challenge. He is happy to have been exiled to a world where he can make full use of his talents and is constantly searching for strong opponents and difficult tasks to alleviate his boredom. This motivation ultimately leads to his death. In a prison, he encounters Sojiro the Willow-Sword, another Visitor of immense power. Dakai, seeking to test himself or perhaps to settle a matter with Yuno, engages Sojiro in combat. Despite his formidable abilities, Dakai fatally miscalculates by stealing Sojiro's sword, failing to realize that Sojiro himself is the true weapon and his practice sword has no special properties. Sojiro defeats him with a slash to the shoulder, leaving him unconscious in a fight that ultimately proves fatal.

Dakai's key relationships are few but significant. His most important connection is with Taren the Guarded, for whom he works loyally as an enforcer and spy. He also forms a tentative bond with Yuno the Distant Talon, a young girl he once promised to free from prison. He expresses a desire to honor this promise and to leave his post with Taren behind to find a new master, showing a flicker of commitment to his word. This relationship, however, is complicated as Yuno holds him responsible for destruction and seeks revenge.

Dakai's development is most apparent in his final moments. While he begins as a supremely confident and nearly unchallenged force, his confrontation with Sojiro reveals the limits of his skills and his own critical misjudgment. His pride in his thieving abilities leads him to disarm his opponent, a move that ironically spells his doom when faced with an enemy who does not rely on their weapon.

Dakai possesses several notable abilities that make him an extraordinarily dangerous individual. His most defining trait is his aberrant eyesight, which allows him to perceive the world with such clarity that he can watch a bullet move in slow motion. This, combined with his insightful resourcefulness, enables him to single-handedly conquer impenetrable labyrinths and instantly assess the terrain of a battlefield. He has hands and fingers of absolute precision and divine speed, capable of plundering objects in moments of utmost crisis at speeds that are impossible to counter. Furthermore, he wields the Magicked Blade of Razhucort, an enchanted scimitar that prides itself on seizing the initiative in any attack. As a Visitor, however, it is noted that he is likely unable to use the Word Arts that are native to the world of Ishura. Despite this limitation, his natural thieving talents and his enchanted blade make him an unrivaled pilferer who can steal across the very boundaries of worlds.
