Description
Akane, whose real name is Akane Fuwa, is a central figure in the second arc of the story, operating as a solo player who refuses to align herself with any of the established teams. Before the events of the narrative, she was a seventeen-year-old high school student and a dedicated member of the kendo club. She lived with her mother, Ayako, and her three sisters: Aoi, Asagi, and Ai. At that time, Akane was known for being calm, level-headed, and possessing a strong sense of fairness. She was proud of her skills as a swordswoman and took pride in her status as a magical girl. This sense of integrity was so strong that she opposed her own family's desire to use their magical girl enhancements to gain an unfair advantage in a kendo tournament.
Akane's entire world was shattered when her family was murdered by Cranberry, a powerful magical girl known as the Musician of the Forest, during one of Cranberry's brutal selection exams. The psychological trauma from this event was catastrophic. Suffering from extreme post-traumatic stress disorder, Akane becomes mentally unstable and unhinged, operating on a single, obsessive principle: revenge against the musician who destroyed her life. In this state, she can barely speak more than a few words at a time, often just muttering the phrase, Are you the musician? Her communication skills are almost nonexistent, and she is driven by violent impulses, attacking nearly every magical girl she encounters to determine if they are her target. She shows no hesitation in killing anyone who obstructs her quest or irritates her, and her methods are brutally efficient. Her preference for working alone is less a tactical choice and more a consequence of her inability to interact with others in a meaningful way.
As a magical girl, Akane dons the appearance of a warrior, wearing a green kimono with a white underlayer, black samurai shoulder pads known as sode, and a black ribbon tied around her neck. Her most defining feature is her potent magical ability: she can cut anything she sees. This power ignores physical distance, allowing her to slash a target regardless of how far away it is, as long as it remains within her line of sight. It also bypasses conventional durability, enabling her to cut through objects of any size or type, including buildings and even beams of light. To activate this magic, Akane must use her unique weapon, a Japanese sword or wakizashi, which she must first raise and then swing down. The cut only registers at the moment the sword is swung, which means there is a slight delay between the decision to cut and the effect. Consequently, if an obstacle blocks her view of the target before the swing is completed, the attack will fail.
Her role in the story is that of a dangerous, unpredictable wildcard, driven solely by her mania. She enters the new survival game not to win, but as a chance to finally settle her vendetta, seeing it as an opportunity to at least land one blow on the musician she despises. When she encounters the magical girl Genopsyko Yumenoshima, she asks her fatal question. Genopsyko, misunderstanding, replies that she uploads her own songs, so she could be called a musician. In response, Akane immediately uses her magic to kill her, slashing through her protective suit and helmet. This action, however, brings her no peace, as she has killed the wrong person. With the sole purpose of her existence now gone, she descends into complete, mindless rampage, attacking all the other magical girls present. Her rampage is finally ended when the magical girl @Meow-Meow summons a large building from the wasteland and drops it directly on top of her, crushing and killing her. In her final moments, she is a tragic figure, a once-fair and loving individual who was completely broken by loss and driven to madness by a thirst for revenge that could never be truly satisfied.
