Description
Cherna Mouse is a magical girl from the arc titled Restart, where she serves as one of the main characters. She is a member of Team Bell, a small group that operates under the unspoken authority of her teammate, Melville.

In appearance, Cherna Mouse has a design that evokes a small, fluffy rodent. She wears what looks like a plush, mouse-themed costume complete with an animal-shaped hood. Under this hood, a few strands of light peach-colored hair are visible. Her outfit includes a cape with a distinct emblem on the shoulders: a diagonal line with a cat silhouette pressed over it. An unusual part of her ensemble is the presence of very large sunflower seeds, which are real and edible.

Personality wise, Cherna Mouse behaves in a way that is noticeably different from a typical human, as her true nature is that of an animal. She lacks common manners, speaks very rarely, and has a limited vocabulary. She often refers to herself in the third person. Cherna is stubborn, innocent, and can be domineering and selfish. One of her most defining traits is her strong territorial instinct; she becomes hostile toward anyone who enters what she considers her territory without permission. Despite her often rude or aggressive behavior toward outsiders, she is intensely loyal to those she considers family. She shows affection and devotion to her chosen group and enjoys activities like sharing meals and grooming.

Her primary motivation stems from her animal instincts. She is driven by a need to protect her family group, secure food, and maintain control over her territory. While she follows the orders of Melville, her motivations are less about ambition and more about fulfilling the clear, simple needs of her pack role.

Within the story of Restart, Cherna Mouse is a notable force due to her raw power. After being invited to participate in a game, she joins forces with Detec Bell, Melville, and Lapis Lazuline to form their team. Melville quickly recognizes that Cherna is easy to manipulate and control, a trait she exploits to her advantage. She uses Cherna as an enforcer, sending her to claim hunting grounds and drive away rival magical girls. During one of these territorial disputes, she battles Masked Wonder. Although Cherna possesses immense strength, Masked Wonder is able to defeat her using a strategic application of her own magic.

Cherna's role as a powerful but simple-minded enforcer leads to significant conflict. Her aggressive actions in claiming territory create animosity between different groups of magical girls. Her behavior is considered so extreme and disruptive that Pfle decides to punish her. With the help of other magical girls who have suffered because of Cherna, Pfle modifies her own wheelchair into a battle vehicle to confront her. Although Pfle's wheelchair is ultimately destroyed, the battle establishes Cherna as a central figure in the escalating conflict.

In terms of key relationships, her most significant tie is to Melville. She is completely loyal and obedient to her, accepting orders without question. This loyalty is exploited directly, as Melville orchestrates Cherna's actions to benefit the team. She is cordial with her other teammates, Detec Bell and Lapis Lazuline, but does not take orders from them the way she does from Melville. A later side story reveals that her original, pre-transformation form is a pet hamster belonging to a girl named Miyokata Nako. Cherna loves Nako deeply and considers her part of her family. She also has a positive relationship with a human named Tomoki Tatehara, who once helped her find food, and she includes him in her circle of trusted family.

Cherna Mouse does not undergo a significant internal transformation during the main Restart storyline. Her character remains consistent in her devotion to Melville and her simplistic, territory-driven worldview. Her development is more tragic and circumstantial. As the game draws to a close and the stakes rise, her trusting nature becomes her downfall. Melville, fearing that Cherna might become an unpredictable variable or a liability, decides to sacrifice her. By manipulating the rules of the game to ensure that Cherna is the sole player with the fewest points, she causes Cherna to be eliminated.

Her most notable ability is her magic: she can make herself incredibly large. She is capable of growing to sizes exceeding thirty meters in height. When she reaches this scale, her mere presence is devastating; the impact of her footsteps can shake the ground with enough force to lift people off their seats from a hundred meters away. She can continue to grow even larger, but the cost is a proportional increase in fatigue. The larger she becomes beyond the thirty-meter mark, the more exhausted she gets. Her combat style relies on her sheer size and mass to crush opponents or destroy obstacles. When combined with her strong teeth and animalistic ferocity, this magic makes her one of the most physically powerful magical girls in the Restart arc. Her sunflower seeds, which can be reproduced with magic, are another minor aspect of her magical kit.
