Description
Hakuren, also called Lady Shirohana Renne Kihaku, is the first princess of the Kihaku Kingdom within the Renza Federation. She operates with her partners Gyokuren, Karen, and Suiren to combat piracy threatening their home. The quartet's first mission involved infiltrating Lady Seto's household disguised as ladies-in-waiting to steal advanced Juraian technology, like a Royal Treeship, for military advantage against pirates. Hakuren conceived this plan, recognizing it might take centuries but viewing it as vital for her people's survival.

She serves as the group's tactical leader and emotional core. Her level 6 bio-enhancements primarily accelerate cognition for rapid strategic analysis, allowing her to devise optimal solutions. However, these enhancements carry significant drawbacks: extreme stress, exhaustion, or illogical scenarios can trigger debilitating thought loops, often requiring physical intervention from Karen to resolve. Despite her enhancements, her combat effectiveness remains hampered by temperamental cowardice.

Her involvement with Seina Yamada begins earlier in the novels than depicted in the anime. Hakuren and her group are assigned to escort Seina after he assists in gathering pirates for Lady Seto's capture. They subsequently act as his covert protectors at the Galaxy Police Academy, crew members on his ships, and maids in Amane Kuramitsu's residence. On the vacation planet Imuim, Hakuren attempts to persuade Seina to embrace romance but slaps him forcefully when he expresses self-doubt about sharing his bad luck. This triggers a thought loop, leaving her distraught.

A critical event occurs on Seina's wedding day to Kiriko Masaki, Amane, Ryoko, and Neju. Hakuren and her partners reveal their identities to Seina and abduct him onto their ship to transport him to the Renza Federation. While the anime adaptation escalates this into a scandal where the quartet jettisons clothing and broadcasts footage of them molesting a naked Seina to claim he "eloped" with them to evade pursuit, the novels present a more conventional kidnapping. The group flees to the neutral starship Racepshi to jump into Renza territory, pursued by Kiriko's group. Their efforts to combat pirates with Seina are repeatedly thwarted by royal forces claiming jurisdiction. After Seina disappears in battle, Hakuren collaborates with Kiriko's group to locate him and continue anti-piracy operations. Flash-forwards confirm her eventual return to Earth and marriage to Seina, solidifying political ties between Jurai, the Galaxy Federation, and Renza.
