Description
Amber Idanokan is the princess of Idanokan, the land of earth inhabited by dwarves, and is the keeper of the Earth Ring. Her origin, however, is not that of a natural-born dwarf. Instead, she is an artificially created being, a type of homunculus or magical automaton, who was brought into existence to serve as a vessel for the Earth Ring. Her creation was an act of desperation by the dwarven people, who faced extinction due to the threat of the Abyss King. To safeguard her and the ring, she was sent to a shrine in the mountains of the real world, where she remained in a state of hibernation until the proper time. She awakens when the protagonist, Satou, and his companions return to their original world, at which point she entrusts him with the Earth Ring and becomes his wife.

In terms of appearance, Amber has striking emerald-green hair and eyes, styled in a short cut. Her artificial nature is immediately apparent from her physical traits, which include robotic-looking ears and pupils shaped like diamonds or rhombuses. Her limbs and neck are covered by a layer that appears to be a permanent, integrated part of her body. On her chest is a distinctive diamond-shaped mark, which functions as a powerful beam cannon.

Amber’s personality strongly reflects her constructed origins, initially embodying the archetype of a robotic girl. Her demeanor is direct, analytical, and often marked by sharp, witty remarks. She possesses a pragmatic outlook on life, having occasionally left her shrine to walk through local towns, where she observed that acting with confidence allowed her to blend in, with people mistaking her for a spirit or local deity if they noticed her at all. While she initially claims to feel no loneliness or deeper emotions, this proves to be a facade. As the story progresses, she gradually exhibits more expressiveness and emotional depth, becoming an increasingly interesting and dynamic member of the group.

Amber’s primary motivation is tied to her function as the vessel for the Earth Ring and the last hope for the dwarven race. Her body carries the genetic line of the last dwarven princess, and she possesses the unique ability to procreate, making the survival of her species a personal responsibility. She initially follows Satou as the Ring King out of this programmed duty, intending to serve him regardless of his personality. However, as the decisive battle approaches, her motivations evolve from pure obligation to personal desire, and she comes to wish for a child with Satou of her own volition.

Within the story, Amber acts as a key figure who completes the set of ring princesses. Upon joining the group, she immediately demonstrates her superior combat abilities, which are among the highest due to her artificial construction. She challenges and defeats the fire princess, Granart Needakitta, spurring her to improve her magical abilities. Her key relationships are varied. With Satou, she is loyal and pragmatic, initially seeing him as the one she is bound to serve. She has a rivalry with the water princess, Saphira Maasa, with whom she engages in sharp verbal exchanges and battles of surreal humor, their contrasting elements of water and earth perhaps fueling their dynamic. The wind princess, Nefritis Romca, is fascinated by Amber’s initial emotional detachment and sometimes uses her as a kind of emotional shield. She is also shown to have inadvertently had romantic moments with Satou interrupted by Hime, the light princess.

Amber’s development throughout the narrative is significant. She transitions from a being who claims to be without emotions and sees herself as a mere tool for the dwarves’ survival into a more expressive individual who makes choices based on personal feelings. This evolution culminates when she receives the greatest legacy of the dwarves before the final battle, becoming an even more crucial asset and making her own decision to continue the dwarven line not just as a mission, but as a personal goal.

Amber possesses a wide array of notable abilities thanks to her nature as a magical automaton. She is a formidable close-quarters combatant who favors fast, multi-hit techniques over single, powerful blows. Among her unique built-in functions are her eyes, which can emit light like a flashlight, though this is often used for comedic effect. Her most powerful weapon is the Mega Flasher, a high-energy heat ray fired from the crystal on her chest that is capable of melting the ground or annihilating groups of enemies at full power. She also possesses the ability to hack into and take control of dwarven golems, provided she understands their structure. In the anime adaptation, she also demonstrates the use of earth magic, such as generating stone lances from the ground, and electric shocks. Before the final battle, she inherits a secret dwarven weapon, making her capable of breaking through any final dungeon and serving as a key to victory.
