Description
Haruto Satō is the protagonist of the anime, an ordinary high school student from Earth whose life takes an extraordinary turn due to his unwavering devotion to his childhood friend. Ten years before the main story, a young Haruto witnessed the arrival of a girl named Hime and her grandfather Alabaster, who emerged from a mysterious pillar of light in a forest. He quickly befriended Hime, promising to keep her secret, and the two grew up together as close companions. Throughout his school years, Haruto harbored deep romantic feelings for Hime, though he always hesitated to confess them directly.

Haruto's defining personality trait is his resolute and impulsive devotion to Hime. When she abruptly announces she is leaving forever, he experiences utter despair. Witnessing another golden pillar of light, he races to the source and, without a moment of hesitation, jumps through a portal to an unknown world, abandoning his entire former life simply to stay by her side. This act demonstrates his courage and recklessness, as he prioritizes his emotions for her above all logic or self-preservation. Once thrust into the role of a hero, he displays a strong will, particularly in resisting the more aggressive romantic and physical advances of the other princesses he must marry, as his heart remains primarily focused on Hime. He is initially naïve but grows into a cunning strategist and a more direct combatant as the dangers he faces increase.

His primary motivation shifts from simply being with Hime to protecting her and the world she comes from. After accidentally becoming the Ring King, he accepts the burden of his new role, understanding that to save the world of Arnulus from the Abyss King, he must collect all five magical rings and master their powers. His ultimate goal is to resolve the crisis so that he might one day return to his original world with Hime. He struggles with guilt over the dangers his companions face and the weight of his responsibilities, which forces him to reconcile his sense of duty with his personal integrity.

In the story, Haruto serves as the central hero and the Ring King. He arrives in the middle of Hime's arranged wedding to an imperial prince. When an Abyssal Demon attacks and threatens everyone, Hime kisses him and bestows upon him the Ring of Light, making him her husband and the prophesied Ring King in place of the prince. With this power, he defeats the demon but learns he is not yet strong enough to face the Abyss King. Following the guidance of the great sage Alabaster, he embarks on a quest to marry four other princesses, each holding a ring of a different element: wind, fire, water, and earth. Successfully marrying them grants him complete control over these elements and the power needed to save the world.

Haruto's key relationships are central to the plot. His relationship with Hime, whose real name is Princess Krystal of the Light Kingdom, is the anchor of the entire series. Although they are technically married, their relationship begins awkwardly, with Hime insisting their union is a formality, though both clearly harbor deep feelings for each other. He consistently prioritizes Hime above all others. With the other Ring Princesses, his dynamics are more complex. Nephritis, the elf princess, initially holds a curious interest in him that grows into aggressive affection; she is fine with being second to Hime as long as she gets her turn. Granart, a warrior princess, initially seeks him only to produce strong heirs, but her lust eventually transforms into genuine love as she witnesses his capabilities. Saphir seems less romantically interested and sometimes makes advances in jest, while Amber, an artificial being created by dwarves, is completely devoted to serving and protecting him, though it is unclear if her feelings are truly her own or part of her programming. His relationships with the princesses are primarily framed as necessary political and magical alliances, though several of them develop genuine romantic feelings for him over time.

Throughout his journey, Haruto undergoes significant development. He begins as a hesitant and impulsive boy but transforms into a resolute leader. He learns to master his emotions, particularly physical temptation, and focuses on the strategic necessity of his mission. He evolves from relying on cunning in early battles to embracing direct combat, refining his swordsmanship alongside his new magical abilities. A critical test of his character comes when he resists an aphrodisiac's lure, choosing to prioritize the princesses' safety over the chance to enhance his power. He matures from a lovestruck teenager into a hero bearing the weight of multiple crowns and the fate of an entire world on his shoulders.

Haruto possesses notable abilities derived from the magical rings. As the holder of the Ring of Light, he gains immense power to destroy creatures from the Abyss. He can channel this power through a sword to unleash devastating attacks against demons. As he marries the other princesses, he gains mastery over their respective elements: earth, fire, wind, and water. These combined powers allow him to craft luminous weapons, summon wind barriers, reshape terrain, and eventually challenge the Abyss King himself. His power grows in proportion to the emotional bonds he shares with his wives, making the strengthening of these relationships a practical necessity for defeating the ultimate evil of his new world.
