Movie
Description
Corix is a character from the anime film Pokémon the Movie: I Choose You!, where he serves as a primary antagonist and a rival to the protagonist, Ash Ketchum. In the original Japanese version of the film, his name is Cross, which is also the basis for his English name. He is originally from the Alola region.

Corix is depicted as an arrogant and powerful Pokémon Trainer who acts as an obstacle on Ash's journey. His primary motivation is not to befriend Pokémon but to seek strength and victory, positioning him in direct opposition to Ash's more compassionate philosophy. A key element of his backstory is that he is the original Trainer of the Charmander that Ash finds and befriends early in the film. Unlike Ash, Corix abandoned the Charmander, deeming it weak. This act establishes his cruel and pragmatic nature, as he values a Pokémon's power above all else and discards those he considers failures. Later in the film, he confronts Ash and his friends directly to block their path toward finding the legendary Pokémon Ho-Oh.

In terms of his role in the story, Corix serves as a dark mirror to Ash, representing what Ash could become if he prioritized power over partnership. The rivalry between them is central to the film's climax, as Corix seeks to prove that his method of training is superior. He is a skilled battler in possession of formidable Pokémon, including a Lycanroc in its Midnight Form and an Incineroar, both of which are fully evolved and powerful battlers. His possession of an Incineroar, the final evolution of the Fire-type Litten, further highlights his departure from the film's focus on the original Kanto region and emphasizes his status as an outsider and a more sophisticated, ruthless trainer. Corix does not undergo a significant personal transformation or redemption arc within the film; he remains a rival defeated by Ash, who proves that trust and friendship with Pokémon can lead to greater strength than cold ambition alone.
