Description
Candice Catnipp is a Quincy and a member of the Wandenreich's Sternritter, an elite fighting force, bearing the designation T, which stands for The Thunderbolt. Her background prior to joining the Wandenreich is not detailed, but she is established as one of the female Sternritter often grouped together, informally known among fans as the Bambis, alongside Bambietta Basterbine, Liltotto Lamperd, Meninas McAllon, and Giselle Gewelle.
In terms of appearance, Candice is a tall, well-endowed young woman standing 166 cm tall, with long, light-green hair and blue or green eyes. She has prominent eyelashes and distinctive, thin, lightning bolt-shaped eyebrows and hair tips. She wears a heavily customized and revealing version of the standard Sternritter white uniform, consisting of a double-breasted jacket left unbuttoned and tied up to expose her midriff and cleavage, paired with short shorts. She accessorizes with a white cap bearing the Wandenreich insignia, a black belt with a green heart-shaped buckle, and bulky-heeled boots.
Candice possesses a very short, explosive temper and is described as impulsive, impatient, reckless, and belligerent. She is highly aggressive in combat and speaks with a coarse, vulgar manner. A defining aspect of her personality is her extreme vanity; she dedicates significant effort to her appearance, waking up hours early to style her hair. Consequently, she cannot stand having her looks ruined in battle, and she develops a strong personal grudge against anyone responsible. Despite her ferocity, she also has a flirtatious side, reportedly enjoying casual encounters with attractive, young male Quincy. She shows some level of camaraderie with her female comrades, criticizing fellow Sternritter Bambietta for killing attractive subordinates when annoyed, and working as part of the group.
Her primary motivation in the storyline is to prove her strength and gain favor from Yhwach, the emperor of the Wandenreich. She believes that if she kills powerful enemies like the Special War Power, Ichigo Kurosaki, Yhwach will grant any wish she desires. Her actions are driven by a desire for glory and a fierce, prideful need to defeat her opponents and maintain her superiority.
Candice plays an active antagonistic role during both invasions of Soul Society. She is first seen during the initial invasion, though her significant involvement occurs during the second invasion. After the Sternritter Gremmy Thoumeaux is defeated by Captain Kenpachi Zaraki, Candice and her group attack the severely wounded Kenpachi, incapacitating him with their combined power. As she prepares to deliver a final blow, she is interrupted by the arrival of Ichigo Kurosaki from the Royal Palace. Enraged when Ichigo easily throws her out of his way and ruins her clothing and hair, Candice engages him alone. She unleashes powerful attacks, including her 5 gigajoule Galvano Blast, and is forced to activate her Vollständig, named Barbarriel or God's Thunderbolt. However, Ichigo counters her assault and severs her left arm with his Getsuga Jūjishō. Her arm is later regenerated by Giselle. Following this, she is shot by her allied Sternritter, Bazz-B, who is annoyed by her recklessness. She subsequently participates in a larger battle against the Shinigami captains, where she is ultimately and definitively defeated by Captain Byakuya Kuchiki.
In terms of relationships, she is most closely associated with the other female Sternritter, particularly Liltotto Lamperd, Meninas McAllon, and Giselle Gewelle, whom she often calls Gigi. In turn, she is nicknamed Candy or Little Candy by Giselle and Bambietta. She has a contentious dynamic with Bambietta, disapproving of her violent habits, but remains a member of her operational group.
Her development throughout the story highlights her as a powerful but ultimately overconfident fighter whose volatile personality and poor judgment lead to her downfall. Following the war, her fate varies. In the original manga, she is implied to have perished when Yhwach uses Auswählen, a power-absorption ability, on the Sternritter. However, in the light novel series Can't Fear Your Own World, it is revealed that she survived. Along with comrades Meninas McAllon and NaNaNa Najahkoop, she is captured by the 12th Division of the Gotei 13 and used as a test subject by Captain Mayuri Kurotsuchi before being released after a subsequent conflict.
Candice Catnipp wields several notable abilities typical of, and unique to, high-ranking Quincy. Her primary power is her Schrift, The Thunderbolt, which allows her to generate, control, and project massive amounts of electricity. She can discharge lightning from her hands or call it down from the sky, and she can even transform her body into lightning for high-speed evasion. Her Quincy Spirit Weapon is a short bow shaped like a lightning bolt, which is stored in a collapsed state within the heart-shaped buckle on her belt. From this bow, she can fire electrically charged Heilig Pfeil. Her signature technique is Galvano Blast, an arrow that delivers a powerful 5 gigajoule electric shock. She can use standard Quincy techniques like Hirenkyaku for high-speed movement and Blut for enhanced defense or attack. Her ultimate ability is her Vollständig, Barbarriel, which grants her six large wings shaped like lightning bolts, a star-shaped halo, and the ability to fly. In this form, she can use her wings as swords for close combat, throw them as Galvano Javelins, and unleash a devastating, colossal lightning strike called Electrocution.
