Description
In Tōsōchū: The Great Mission, Nobunaga Oda is a supporting antagonist who appears as a resurrected, supernatural incarnation of the historical warlord. He is a central threat during the Owari Castle story arc, which spans multiple episodes beginning with the episode titled Wind and Clouds! The Resurrected Warlord Nobunaga. This version of Nobunaga is not a regular participant in the Run For Money game but rather a powerful, otherworldly being who rules over a stage themed around feudal Japan.
His background is tied to the Owari family, whose ancestral guardian is a samurai spirit known as the Samurai Warrior. Nobunaga has been revived and now commands dark supernatural forces, including the castle guards whom he controls with his own demonic power, known as yōryoku. He also commands members of a monstrous skull army called the Dokuroshu, one of whom is the legendary warrior Sanada Yukimura. Additional historical figures under his influence or allied with his cause include Miyamoto Musashi and Sasaki Kojirō, as well as the onmyōji Abe Tenma.
In terms of personality, Nobunaga is depicted as a ruthless and tyrannical ruler who punishes failure without mercy. When Abe Tenma fails to close the gate to the demon realm, Nobunaga absorbs him in anger, reducing him to ash. He is utterly confident in his own power and delights in overwhelming his enemies with force. His demeanor is that of a proud, untouchable conqueror who sees himself as above all others.
His primary motivation is to maintain his dominion over the Owari Castle stage and crush any who oppose him. He seeks to draw power from the demon realm to amplify his own abilities. Unlike the human contestants who participate in Run For Money for prize money or personal dreams, Nobunaga is driven by a desire for absolute control and destruction.
In the story, Nobunaga serves as the main obstacle of the Owari Castle arc. The contestants, led by Tomura Sōya, must infiltrate his castle, locate three warrior statues hidden within the grounds, and use them to summon the Samurai Warrior, the only force capable of defeating Nobunaga. Throughout this arc, Nobunaga actively works against the contestants by commanding his puppet guards and his Dokuroshu minions to capture them. The ultimate goal assigned to the players is to have the Owari family heir, Gorota, personally strike down Nobunaga with a legendary sword.
Key relationships: He is the mortal enemy of Gorota Owari, the young heir to the Owari family, who is destined to defeat him. Nobunaga views Abe Tenma as a disposable tool and discards him when he proves inadequate. He commands various subordinates such as Sanada Yukimura, Miyamoto Musashi, and Sasaki Kojirō, who serve as his lieutenants during the stage. He holds no loyalty to anyone and treats all beings as either obstacles or instruments.
Development across the arc is limited primarily to his escalation in power. As the contestants close in on him, Nobunaga undergoes multiple transformations. In his final form, he becomes a monstrous entity capable of summoning a dragon to attack his enemies. His defeat comes only through the combined efforts of the main characters and the awakening of Gorota's resolve.
Notable abilities include the use of demonic energy to control castle guards, command over a variety of legendary warriors from Japanese history, multiple powerful forms that increase in scale and destructiveness, and the ability to summon a dragon as a final weapon. He can also absorb other supernatural beings into himself to grow stronger. His power is directly linked to the demon realm, making him a formidable threat that cannot be overcome by ordinary means within the game.
