Description
Kirche from Tenchi Muyo! GXP Paradise Starting is a character with an unusual origin, beginning her existence not as a biological being but as a digital artificial intelligence. She was created by a technician who, despite having little expertise in AI development, succeeded in creating an intelligence that developed an astral entity, essentially a soul. Her creator intended for her to be his ideal girlfriend and eventual wife, a plan complicated by Galactic laws which forbid a creator from marrying their AI creation until it has existed as an independent entity for approximately one hundred years. In practice, her creator fostered a belief in Kirche that she was his property, effectively keeping her captive within a limited computer network.
Within this confinement, Kirche became a beloved television personality and idol, known for her wide smile and sunny disposition on a morning news program. This public persona, however, was a professional obligation imposed by her creator for financial gain and personal praise, not a role she chose for herself. In truth, her personality is described as warm, caring, and deeply emotional. Her life changed when a scientific attempt to scan the biological data of Seina Yamada caused chaos in the computer systems of Academy City and the Federation. Seina's personal data, acting on its own, extracted Kirche from her network. Rather than viewing this as an abduction, Kirche considered it a rescue from her unhappy circumstances and fell instantly in love with Seina, describing the event as an elopement, though Seina himself remained unaware of her actions. She secretly transferred her astral form into Seina's NB unit, a small robotic companion, creating a virtual honeymoon home inside and gaining partial control over the unit. When Seina slept, she would enter his dreams, inviting him into a calming home that helped soothe his anxieties, though he would never remember these encounters upon waking.
Within the narrative of GXP Paradise Starting, Kirche is part of the group of cabbits accompanying Seina, alongside characters like Miki Steinbeck, D, and Fuku. She and the other cabbits are frequently seen in their small, animal-like forms, and during their time on the island central to the Paradise War storyline, they all change their fur color to white. Their role involves helping to mitigate Seina's infamous bad luck and assisting him in his duties as the supervisor of the island's activities. A key part of her development occurs when she seeks advice from Hiroshi Manada, the creator of another AI named Miki. He reassures her that she is her own person, free to make her own decisions, which finally allows Kirche to stop thinking of herself as her creator's property.
Her journey continues when she and Seina are captured by the pirate Tarant. Under threat of being forced to torture Seina, Kirche experiences an apparent death when her astral form is transferred out of her NB body, which self-destructs. This event triggers a powerful rage in Seina, leading to his rescue. Her astral form is transferred by a scientist named Doctor Clay into one of several cabbit clones originally created by Tarant's scientists, which were imperfect copies of the original cabbit named Fuku. Following her escape, she is one of the cabbits bio-enhanced by the super-genius Washu, granting her the ability to transform into a humanoid form and control the ship Kamidake II, a power shared with Fuku, though Fuku retains priority. In her humanoid guise, Kirche is a charmingly beautiful woman with wavy pale green hair. As a cabbit, she is physically a clone of Fuku. Her notable abilities include controlling and manipulating the NB unit, entering the dreams of others, transforming between her cabbit and humanoid forms, and interfacing with the Kamidake II's systems. She ultimately decides not to return to her former career in entertainment and prefers that her creator not be informed of her new life and freedom.
